The stats for May 2026 are in!
Things are getting busier in the wildlife world with lots of rescues last month on average 2 per day!.
30% of calls involved birds in difficulty, 30% of calls involved a vehicle hit of some kind again mostly wallabies, kangaroos or birds.
Thank you to those who take the 2 mins required to call it in. It is almost never the person responsible. We know accidents happen, please take a few minutes of your time to call our rescue hotline, so we can check pouches and move the animal safely off the roadway. Don't leave it someone else. Be the someone else 🙏

Did you know .....?
🦘The most common reason that male kangaroos box each other is to demonstrate their dominance and secure a female mate. Generally only the dominant male mates with the females. However, all of the other males also want to have a chance with them too. Therefore, just like many other animals, males fight over females. Kangaroos literally use their hind legs to kick box their opponent. However, the key to their ability to do this is in their tail. This is because they actually balance on their tails while kicking out with their back legs. However, they can only do this because their tail is extremely strong and muscular – strong enough to hold their entire weight. 🦘
Please call our rescue hotline on 0448466556 whenever you see injured or distressed wildlife.

Batty Facts - Did you know?
In a single night of foraging, these industrious animals can cover up to 30 kilometres.
Roosting colonies of flying foxes, known as camps, may contain several thousand individuals. Some camps have been in use for hundreds of years by many generations of flying foxes.
The grey-headed flying fox is one of the smallest of our flying foxes, weighing in at just 300 grams. Being light and manoeuvrable is handy given the vast distances it migrates - up to 1,000km a year up and down Australia's east coast in search of food.
