⚠️ Significant breaking news: NSW Forestry Corporation has today been sentenced in the NSW Land and Environment Court for illegally logging six giant trees and three hollow-bearing trees in Wild Cattle Creek State Forest in NSW in 2020. They have been sentenced to pay $450k in damages to the Gumbaynggirr People.
These offences occurred inside the boundaries of the promised Great Koala National Park, a commitment made by the NSW Labor Government at the 2015, 2019 and 2023 elections.
After a long delay and further submissions by Forestry Corporation, the court confirmed it has the power to impose more than a nominal penalty and direct funds toward restorative justice actions with the Yurruungga Aboriginal Corporation.
Forestry Corporation is a repeat offender with dozens of criminal offences charged against the government-run logging agency.
Wild Cattle Creek State Forest should have never been logged. Today’s decision is a reminder that illegal logging carries consequences and that the forests of the proposed Great Koala National Park must finally be safeguarded, including those that are classified as plantations, for koalas and other endangered species.
🔴 NSW Forestry Corporation must be shut down!
