David Cantley joined the Australian Defence Force in 1988 and joined RAEME as a Metalsmith.

This is a trade much like a boilermaker, but with the versatility to work on everything from trucks and boats to tanks.

Later, he transferred trades and became an Aircraft Structural Fitter He assumed, in this role, he’d never deploy overseas. How wrong Dave was.....

Dean Vervaart or Dutchy as he’s better known, first joined the Military in 1989, and after serving full time for 16 years is still involved as an active member of the Navy reserve here in Hobart.

Dutchy also plays a key role with the Tasmania South Sub-Branch of the Military Brotherhood Military Motorcycle Club, and its here he values his mates’, (Brothers & Sisters) & the camaraderie that comes with it, as they look to assist fellow veterans.

Chris Munday joined the Royal Australian Navy at just 16 years old.

Although he initially set out to become a Surveyor, he instead trained as a Sick Berth Attendant and, at one point, served as the sole medic aboard three different Navy ships.

His love of music runs deep, and today he remains active in his community through the local fire station as the Brigade Chief and by supporting former service members as a Welfare Officer in North East Tasmania.

Carlo Novak enlisted in the Australian Army in 2001.

He was initially deployed to East Timor followed by Iraq, Afghanistan and finally Timor again which was to become Timor-Leste after gaining its independence.
