It's well and truly feeling like Winter in Tassie today! ❄
Which means it's that time of year when we all become soup chefs. No, not sous chefs.. you heard us right the first time.. SOUP chefs. 👩‍🍳

Soup is warming, relatively easy, and can feed you for days. But maybe you're feeling tired of your old soup recipes. We've been doing some recipe swapping at Women's Health HQ and we want to invite you to do that same! Drop your favourite recipe in the comments and maybe you'll find a new fave too!

Finding your Winter Rhythm continued... ❄
We are back with more tips on How to Winter.
This week we explore the power of language and how the way we speak can influence the way we feel. We also learn another meaning for the Winter blues 💙

As part of our listening tour and our focused outreach to rural and regional GPs, WHT sponsored the Tasmanian Rural Health Conference in Devonport in the last weekend of May. 🌞

In travelling around the state hearing from community members and medical professionals, we are learning so much about what Tasmanian women need from the health care system. This listening tour is all about hearing from you so we can shape the important role we play in advocating for women's health, providing evidence-based health information, and empowering women to lead long, healthy lives.

If you haven't already, please tell us what you need from your health care services by taking a few moments to complete our survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WHTListeningTour

Ahh, Winter... It can’t be avoided (unless you’re a millionaire with a summer house in Southern France). Complaining about it feels…blah. So, how can we change the way we think about Winter? 🤔

Our team has been loving the book How to Winter by Kari Leibowitz lately. Lucky for you, we have created a short summary of it to teach you all the lovely tips and tricks of how to Winter and how to Winter well!

Follow along for the next few weeks as we share more tips from the book. Feel free to add your own Winter survival tips in the comments too ❄❤❄

What an honour it was to host the launch of the LARC Centre of Excellence with Rebecca White and Primary Health Tasmania last week. 🤩

The Centre will be so beneficial for Tasmanian women, providing bulk-billed LARC services (Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptive) and focusing on outreach to women in rural and regional areas.

A huge thank you to our very own Board member Lauren Yates-Jones for her advocacy by sharing her personal experience of getting an IUD, and how it changed her life.

If you'd like to learn more about LARCs, you can check out our episode of She's Out There with Jo Flanagan and Dr Sue Mallet (another of our wonderful Board members!) https://www.womenshealthtas.org.au/podcasts/shes-out-there/episode-3-larcs-contraceptives-will-help-you-sing-wing

The successful provider for the Tasmanian LARC Centre of Excellence is likely to be announced in July 2026. WHT looks forward to working with them 🌟

The weather outside is dreary,
maybe it's got you a little weary

because to be wet and cold,
can really get old
and some of us hate it quite dearly.

But Winter ain't all so bad,
in fact, some people feel very glad
to be warm and cozy
with socks on their toes-ey
I guess there's some fun to be had?!

Okaaay, now that we have expressed ourselves creatively, we are here to announce our newest socials series... all about Winter. ❄

Over the next few weeks, we will share helpful tips and resources on how to stay positive, socially connected, and healthy throughout the cold months. We promise our tips are better than our poetry!

Stay tuned for more and in the meantime, stay warm ❤️‍🔥

What's the Biggest Barrier to health care where you live?

Women's Health Tasmania is on a Listening Tour to learn all about what Tasmanian women want from their health care.

We started at Agfest and will be back up north this weekend at the Tasmanian Rural Health Conference in Devonport.

Next week we will be talking to women in Hobart and have many more trips planned across the state.

We also have a simple online survey where you can add your voice.

Please share your thoughts on what is most important to you for your health care at:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WHTListeningTour

This information will help inform our next strategic plan and to advocate for better health services for Tasmanian women.

📱Thanks to the Rotary Club of North Hobart WHT is proud to be a drop off location for DV Safe Phone.

Every three minutes, someone in Australia makes a call seeking emergency help due to domestic violence. Yet many people experiencing domestic violence can’t call at all because their phones are taken from them or monitored by perpetrators.

You can donate a phone you no longer need and help save a life and empower victim-survivors of domestic violence to stay connected and safe. 💌

If you arrive to donate after hours, please use the mail slot on the front cottage door to drop off the phone.

What a fantastic few days at Agfest!

Aside from holding a baby donkey (!!!) our favourite part was chatting to the hundreds of women who came to visit and generously share their stories with us.

We asked the women of Tasmania what their biggest barrier to accessing health care is and heard all kind of things from difficulties finding GPs who know about menopause, to not knowing who to trust for reliable health care information.

All that we have learnt from the community will inform our new strategic plan and help us deliver the services Tassie women need 💜
