Fishability Fishability provides a range of programs and plays an advocacy role in promoting inclusive participation in recreational fishing.

Fishability is a not for profit organisation that delivers programs and activities for anyone who wants to fish! We support all members of the community including those who require assistance with fishing, wheelchair access and amenities. We have identified the very best fishing spots in Western Australia for our community of more than 100 volunteers and 3000 anglers. Fishability started as a small Perth based not for profit organisation in 2003 with a small handful of volunteers. We have now grown to an organisation of more than 100 volunteers and 3000 anglers across Perth, Geraldton, Mandurah, Albany, Busselton, Bunbury and Waroona. Nev Thomas was the founder of Fishability who worked as a volunteer liaison officer for the Department of Fisheries and checked bag limits. He discovered a group of people who were keen to fish but needed a helping hand and Fishability was born. Fishability acknowledges that our fishing activities are undertaken on the ancestral lands of the First Australians. We acknowledge the First Australians as the traditional owners of the lands where we fish and we pay our respects to their Elders both past and present.

The increasing heat dictates that this is the last of our Roebourne and Surrounds activities for the year but don't worry the team will be back next year 🤩

Over 400 people have enjoyed these the 6 events for 2026 - made possible by our coordinators and their husbands Noel and Mr Val as well as Beth and Sarah Roots 😊

A huge thanks go to Azure Minerals for supporting every event putting up shelters, unpacking and packing the trailer and supplying the BBQ trailer and cooking lunch for every event (much appreciated by all!) and to Melody for supplying bus transfers from Karratha!

Thank you to everyone who attended and their wonderful carers 😊

What a magic end to the season for our newest part of the Fishability family 😍

Fishability is so excited and proud to announce our new partnership with Access Tours — Accessible Virtual Tours 🤩

What does Hillarys actually look like before you arrive? Now you can see it!

Parking, toilets, the jetty, the path down to the fishing deck — walk the whole site from home, days before session day. No guessing, no surprises, no scoping out a bathroom on the day 😊

This is our first accessible virtual tour, live now:

Built by Access Tours: https://accesstours.ai

More Fishability locations are being added as we go — so wherever the next session is, you'll be able to see it first.

Despite a wayward tree and some unwelcome easterly breeze our freshwater team persisted and had a magic day down in Waroona 😊

Over the course of the event, three good Rainbow Hens were caught. A yearling then two broodies. 31 cm, 41 cm and 43 cm, in that order. We hear the only unhappy participant was the friendly, local Kingfisher who didn't manage to land one of his very own!

If this looks like something you'd enjoy - whether as a participant or one of our amazing volunteers - we love to hear from you!

Big shout out to the Alcoa Volunteers for all their hard work on 'clean up' day🤩

12 volunteers, 4 hours....Mandurah's MV Fishability is now ship shape from top to bottom (the team even cleaned the ceiling and pressure washed the carpet!) and fueled up all ready to go!

And the Fishability van wasn't forgotten - given a thorough clean from the inside out, replaced equipment and a detailed external trim - everything is now all shiny 😊

Vollies helping vollies - we love it! Thank you PEACH - Personnel Employed at Alcoa Charity Help
