Now the temperature has dropped and rain is on its way FDR is back to Moderate in Mid Coast and Greater Hunter for the next few days.

Mid Coast FDR is Moderate however the other side of the Karuah River is High with a Total Fire Ban.

🔥 FIRE PERMITS – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

With the Bush Fire Danger Period underway, fire permits are required for certain types of burning across our area. Before lighting a fire, make sure you understand when a permit is required and what our permit officers can and cannot issue permits for.

📝 HOW DO I APPLY FOR A FIRE PERMIT?

Fire permits are free and can be arranged through the NSW Rural Fire Service.

🧑🏻‍🚒 Our local fire permit officers are volunteers who give up their own time to assist the community. Please apply well in advance of your intended burn date. Don’t leave it until the last minute, as our officers have work and other commitments and may not be available immediately.

🔥 WHAT CAN WE ISSUE A FIRE PERMIT FOR?

During the Bush Fire Danger Period, a fire permit may be issued for certain types of burning, including:

- Burning piles of vegetation and garden waste, where permitted.
- Burning vegetation associated with land management activities, where permitted.

Each application is assessed on its circumstances, and approval is subject to the relevant requirements and conditions.

🚫 WHAT CAN’T WE ISSUE A FIRE PERMIT FOR?

A fire permit cannot be used to authorise the burning of prohibited waste or materials. This includes, but not limited to;

- Building and demolition waste.
- Tyres and rubber products.
- Mattresses and old furniture.
- Household rubbish* and plastics.
- Painted or chemically treated timber.

These items must be disposed of through appropriate waste and recycling services.

⚠️ BEFORE YOU LIGHT A FIRE

Even if you have a fire permit, you must comply with all permit conditions and applicable restrictions. A permit does not allow you to burn during a Total Fire Ban.

You must also ensure the fire is properly prepared, supervised and controlled, with adequate firefighting equipment available. You will also need to notify your neighbours and the relevant authorities before burning.

❤️ Supporting Max

Yesterday, Max sadly lost his home in a house fire, along with his belongings and many irreplaceable personal memories.

As he works out what comes next, the community is coming together to help with some of the immediate essentials clothing, food, temporary accommodation and whatever else he may need in the days ahead.

🚒 The Fire May Be Out, but the Work Isn't Over 🚒

While the house fire has been extinguished, the job doesn't end when crews leave the scene.

Back at the station, firefighters begin the important task of cleaning and restoring equipment. Hoses must be washed, dried, rolled and returned to the trucks, while appliances are cleaned, refuelled and restocked to ensure they are ready for the next emergency.

This behind-the-scenes work is a vital part of every response and helps ensure our brigade can respond quickly and safely when the next call comes in.

A big thank you to all our volunteers who not only fight fires but also spend countless hours maintaining equipment and preparing for future incidents. 👏🚒🔥
