We are proud and honoured that the STARTTS Albury–Wodonga Seniors DanceMove Program, led by Goma, Tika and the dedicated team, has been nominated as a finalist in today’s prestigious Excellence Awards Ceremony at Charles Sturt University.
This recognition celebrates the strength and resilience of our seniors, the healing power of movement, and the importance of community connection, inclusion and wellbeing. It reflects the collective efforts of our participants, staff, volunteers and community partners who make this program so meaningful.
We would also like to acknowledge and give credit to Murrumbidgee Local Health District for providing the training and opportunity for our staff to become DanceMove practitioners, and STARTTS NSW for creating a platform that has enabled our wonderful seniors to participate, connect, express themselves and thrive through movement.
Being named a finalist is a wonderful achievement, and we are proud to represent STARTTS and our vibrant community at this inspiring event. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey and supported us along the way.

Ba Aama Excursion STARTTS Albury Wodonga 2026

03/06/2026

At STARTTS Albury Wodonga,we know that supporting older people strengthens entire families and communities. Activities such as gentle chair-based movement, social connection, and shared experiences help reduce loneliness, improve wellbeing, and promote healthy ageing. Research shows that when seniors are socially engaged and connected, they experience better physical and mental health, while families benefit from reduced caregiving stress and greater peace of mind. When older community members thrive, everyone is better able to contribute, work, and participate in community life. Today’s smiles and movement remind us that investing in our seniors is an investment in stronger families and a more connected community. STARTTS acknowledged MLHD for providing training for two staff from STARTTS Albury Wodonga where they could use the skills to entertain seniors and engage them fully in body movement activities. Thanks MLHD and Dance Alliance for your support to certify Dance Move practitioners for STARTTS AW.

During our visit to the Great Stupa, we also saw the beautiful statues of Lord Krishna and Lord Ganesh. Lord Krishna is known for teaching wisdom, love, and compassion through the Bhagavad Gita. Lord Ganesh, the remover of obstacles, is worshipped for good fortune and new beginnings. Seeing these sacred figures alongside the Great Stupa highlighted the shared values of peace, kindness, and spiritual growth found across different faith traditions.

The 367 prayer wheels surrounding the Great Stupa spread messages of peace, compassion, and mindfulness. Walking around the stupa and spinning the prayer wheels brought back memories of the dzongs, monasteries, and gompas of Bhutan. For many participants, it was a meaningful and memorable excursion that helped them reconnect with their culture and spiritual heritage.

On 21 May, STARTTS Albury was delighted to support a senior community excursion to the Great Stupa. The visit provided an opportunity for participants to connect with one another, explore a significant cultural and spiritual landmark, and enjoy a day of learning and reflection. Excursions like these help strengthen social connections, reduce isolation, and promote wellbeing among older people from refugee and migrant backgrounds. Thank you to everyone who participated and made the day so enjoyable.
