As locals of the Sunshine Coast, we pride ourselves on the peace, security, and freedom that define our way of life, and we are staunch believers in the principles laid out in Article 9. We hold the firm stance that no individual should ever be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention, or exile. In our community, liberty is a cherished value, and we believe that any deprivation of that liberty must be grounded in clear, transparent laws rather than the whims of authority.

Article 8 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) focuses on the right to an effective remedy. It ensures that if your fundamental rights are violated, you have the legal standing to seek justice and correction through a competent court or tribunal.

In plain terms, while other articles define what your rights are, Article 8 explains what you can do when those rights are ignored. It acts as a "procedural" right that makes all other rights meaningful. Without Article 8, a government could theoretically grant you freedom of speech but provide no way for you to complain if they suddenly took it away. This article is the foundation for "Access to Justice".

Ever heard of Article 6 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights? It’s simple but powerful.

​It means that no matter who you are or where you come from, you aren’t "invisible" to the system. You have a legal voice, the right to protection, and the right to exist as a person in the eyes of the law.

To us, this isn't just a legal technicality; it is the foundation of human dignity. Without legal "personhood," an individual is unable to seek justice or access the protections that a fair society provides. This human right validates that our value is intrinsic and recognized by the state, not granted as a favor.

Some delicious treats that our cooked up for us today 🤍

On the menu is a Bacon, Parsely, Garlic and Cheese Focaccia as well as am Iced Lemon cake and a Chocolate and Vanilla Marbled cake. We also have some members staffing the coffee machine so whatever you'd need we will try our best to provide!

Join us every Monday from 10:30 - 2:30pm for education on Human Rights, a sweet or savoury treat, or even just a tea/coffee and a chat!
