Last week we had a joint meeting with the Rotary Club of Greater Dandenong and Endeavour Hills.

Our guest speaker was Brian Ashworth who had been involved with Disaster Aid Australia for many many years.

His presentation focused on safe water for every child.

If a village has safe water it impacts the following 7 key areas:
Water, sanitation and hygiene
Disease Prevention and treatment
Maternal and child health
Basic education and literacy
Community Economic Development
Environment
Peace building and conflict prevention

It is amazing how clean water can impact a family, village, town and country.

Disaster Aid Australia is achieving great outcomes and every Rotary club should get involved to ensure that every family and child has clean water where this is not available.

Our club contributed $500 which will fund a water filter for a village fir 12months and has agreed to work together for a much greater project that will deliver clean water to other areas where needed.

Last meeting was a special night when our Member David Cugley organised the
Earlyactors from Kingswood Primary School to attend our Rotary meeting and to update the Members what they have been doing this year.
The EarlyAct club is sponsored by our Rotary Club and started 8 years ago.

Charli the President, Lani the Treasurer and Domenic the Projects Team Leader gave a splendid and professional PowerPoint presentation. They were also able to answer every question that was asked.
Some of the projects that they have worked on were: wheelchair for kids, food Bank and fire rescue after the bush fires.

The skills that the kids have learnt from joining EarlyAct are Leadership, Accounting and working in teams.

A special thank you goes to our member Malcolm Elliott who has put in a lot of work in making sure that every year the EarlyAct club is functioning well.

Our club held the first Hearing and Vision tests for Children for 2026.

The tests were held at the Springvale Service for Children in Lightwood Road Springvale.

42 Children were tested by 5 Final Year Student Audioligists and 5 Final Year Optometrists.

The results were as follows:
Vision Screening
14 Passed (33%)
28 failed and are at risk(67%)

Hearing Screening
28 Passed (67%)
10 failed and need further testing(24%)
4 could not be tested due to condition. (9%)

Our club is proud in providing these free tests that pick up issues that children may have that impact their learning abilities.
Feedback from parents was great that these tests are free and assists to screen their children for issues that they are not aware.

Another way that Rotary does good in our Community.
