Diving Club Meeting – Fun Vibes! 🐠🌊
Recent Adventures in SA Waters
Last Weekend Boat Bash: Regan, Gareth, Halton & Angela hit the boat and explored Wolf & Lumb dive sites. Viz was a solid 5m – still plenty of fun underwater!
Wednesday Shore Smash: Regan crushed it at Port Noarlunga and spotted a cheeky goat fish! Viz jumped up to 8m – absolute ripper of a dive. 🐐
This Weekend
Mother Nature’s not playing nice – winds are blowing the wrong way for Port Noarlunga and Second Valley. Time to chill and plan the next one!
Must-Do Admin (Quick & Important)

Summary of Club Meeting

A huge thank‑you to everyone who came along to the AGM. An excellent turnout. All reports will be shared on Signal for anyone who’d like to read them in full.

Tonight was a proud moment for the club as we unveiled our new BSAC Adelaide logo, created by a local Indigenous artist to honour the Kaurna lands we dive on and the iconic marine life of South Australia with the leafy sea dragon taking center stage and the ever‑adorable pajama squid.

The results of the Your Voice Survey were presented and will help guide the club’s direction moving forward. Thank you to everyone who contributed.

Plenty of certificates were handed out for recently completed training alongside Doug winning best new diver and Gareth winning the award nobody wants - the Dory Award.

Recent Diving Activity

Stanvac Jetty — Kym provided boat cover for Dave, Paula and Rick. Surgy waters, ~4 m vis, and a stunning Harlequin fish sighting.
- Stanvac Jetty — Dennis and Jim enjoyed 8–10 m vis, plenty of crabs, varied fish life, and a max depth of 14 m.
SeaWolfe & Lumb — Helen, Mika, Dr Dave, Ang and Gareth reported good vis and moderate fish life. Moved on to
Stanvac for a second dive but abandoned due to strong current and 2 m vis. Others returned to the Lumb for their second dive.
Port Noarlunga — Sal and Rick had a great dive with 4–5m vis and Sal meeting her first leatherjacket… which took a very close interest in her mask.

Weather & Conditions
Conditions are looking good across local areas with small low tides and dodge tides on the way.

Dive Planning
Sunday: Reagan, Sal and Ben are planning a dive — location TBC
Possible boat dive: Ang and Gareth
Keep an eye on Signal for updates.

Reagan walked home with enough dosh to buy a round at the pub after winning the Rock Vault.

Club Meeting Summary

Diving Activity
Gareth and Ang’s boat dive was apparently a non‑event and is shaping up as a strong Dory Award contender.
Jim and Sal reported good conditions but pea‑soup visibility at Port Hughes over the weekend, while Helen and Theresa dived the Hobart, gave the windows a clean, and noted plenty of healthy growth. They also practiced DSMB deployment at Port Noarlunga this evening, where the visibility was excellent and marine life abundant.

Weather
Weather across local areas looks positive for diving, with light winds and better tides in the morning; rain is expected, but divers will be wet anyway! The mild conditions should make for a solid late‑season weekend.

Dive Planning
Sally and Rick on Saturday at Port Noarlunga
Dave and Paula on Sunday at Port Noarlunga.
Possible Sunday morning boat dive from O’Sullivans,
Updates will come via Signal.

Social events
BBQ in the Park on 21 June at Oaklands Wetland Reserve.
Winter Social Camp from 10–12 July at McLaren Vale Caravan Park featuring a crock‑pot palooza
Splash Inn event on 29 May. Tickets available on Eventbrite. There's a 5pm meal planned beforehand. Contact Theresa if you're wanting grub!

Dive Trips
Bali’s Liberty Dive Resort in Tulamben are planned for May and August.

Other business
The AGM will be held next week with an earlier start at 7pm and pizza provided, . Members are encouraged to attend.

To finish the night, Ben won the Rock Vault, took a gamble, and unfortunately didn’t come out on top.

Summary of tonight's Club Meeting

A cosy club night tonight with the heater working hard to keep us warm.

Diving:
Regan and Helen braved Saturday’s weather for a dive at Whalebone Caves.
Donovan hit Port Noarlunga.
Ang’s computer is clearly living its best fantasy life… apparently she did a 175 m dive with 199 minutes bottom time and no deco. If anyone’s in the market for a new computer soon, it might be her!

Weather:
The weekend and next week are looking great across most local dive spots.
Sunday should be a cracker thanks to the dodge but don’t forget it’s Mother’s Day in all the excitement.

Upcoming Dive Plans:
• Grant is planning to dive the Hobart this weekend
• A possible boat dive is being arranged via Gareth for the weekend
• Possible Tuesday dive
Keep an eye on Signal, or shout out if you’re keen for a buddy.

Summary of Tonight's Club Meeting

Dives This Week:
Port Noarlunga - Sally (supported by Paula & Rick) completed an experience dive, practicing depth changes and buoyancy control.
Donovan explored the weeds and was rewarded with some Leather Jackets

Stavac Jetty - Gareth, Angela, Jim & Dr David did a boat dive on the search for nudibranchs without too much success . A number of spider crabs were spotted and the sponges and anemones are showing early patches of colour!

Second Valley- Grant & Dr David put the scuba scooters through their paces. After a quick intro, they covered a wide area out toward Carrickalinga Up to 5× faster than swimming, easier than expected, and great fun all round. After completing a photo dive Gareth and Ang also had a play with the scooters with Gareth getting all the way up to speed level 2 (out of 8!) 😄

Upcoming Dive Planning:
Midweek conditions looking good. Weekend less promising . Victor Harbor (the Bay) could be an option thanks to minimal current. Potential visit to Whalebones Caves. Watch Signal for updates!

Great outcome from sausage sizzle at the weekend. Thanks to everyone who helped out.

Bbq in Park 21st June.
Winter social camp July Mclaren vale caravan park. 10th -12th

24/04/2026

For those of us in the diving community, ANZAC Day also carries a special connection. Throughout history, divers have played critical roles in military operations:
• Navy clearance divers who worked in dangerous, low‑visibility conditions to remove mines and explosives
• Combat swimmers and reconnaissance teams who gathered intelligence and secured coastlines
• Underwater engineers and repair teams who kept ships, submarines and harbours operational
• Rescue and recovery divers who carried out some of the most challenging and unseen tasks in times of conflict and disaster

Their work was often silent, unseen, and incredibly risky, yet vital to the safety of others.

As we head out for dives this week, we do so with gratitude for those who served beneath the surface as well as above it.
Lest we forget.
