Not Peddling - Sh*tbox Rally Spring 2025

Last day of the journey turned into a bit of an event.
After heading off from the Nindigully Pub, we scooted past a range of headers doing some grain work on the way to the solo art in Yelarbon.
Not enough time for a stop as we were going to be cutting it close getting into the final destination.
There was a request for a driver change, so we pulled over and then discovered some mechanical issues. Unfortunately, the absolute gems of Sent & Bent had injector issues and were relegated to a trailer. But never fear! The boys jumped in with Poor Patrol and we were rolling again.
We pushed on, through the hills, the roadworks, the rain, thunder, lightning and rainbows.
We ended up being the 3rd last team to arrive (we think) despite departing in 4th place, but thats the rally!
We have settled into accommodation that we dont need to set up, has not dust, rocks or flies. We have been fed, watered and washed and are ready for a nap!
Tomorrow is the auction and post-rally party, going to be great to relax and reflect.

Boom, what a drive today, good amount of dirt and tar.
Headed out from Bourke straight back onto dirt headed to the Goodooga Great Artesian Baths. The water was HOT! Couldn’t take a dip as we can’t handle the heat, ha ha!
After that, went via the Hebel Hotel (who made it to the cover of Bush Pubs), bouncing between dirt and tarmac and road trains, to the Dirranbandi pub. The road trains going down the Main Street were impressive.
At some point we passed a massive cotton processing plant, it was mega but I didn’t get any pics sorry.
From there, we had a quick look at William the Wombat in Thallon, QLD.
Then, Nindigully Pub for a feed and a refreshment.
Last day tomorrow. It’s all tarmac

We’re into Bourke!
Today was less dramatic for us, after a little look into Silverton, we went back through Broken Hill and out to the Little Topar for fuel (uh oh, no petrol!) so tally ho.
Nothing but goats, roadkill and a few trucks Fuelled up in Wilcannia, luckily we found a quiet bowser.
On the way to the Tilpa Hotel, another team had a spin out in the mud. Luckily, no injuries just elevated heart rates.
Got our names on the roof at the Tilpa Hotel, then back on the road to Shindys Inn in Louth. Quick stop off then more dirt. More goats, Roos, pigs and emus.
Pulled into Bourke, fuelled up and now about to have a feed at the campground.
Onwards to Nindigully tomorrow.

Well today was a day!
We got the wooden spoon and were the last to leave, but managed to make up ground.
Hit the dirt and it was a tough track!
Rolled through some rocky dry creek crossings for a pint and pie at the Blinman Hotel.
Back on the road and one of our teams ended up with brakes not attached, didn’t take too long and we borrowed some bolts from elsewhere and were back on the road.
Bulldust, potholes and more dirt (260km out of 536km) then rolled into Yunta where we caught a flat!
Easy fix, refuel and we have now been fed and watered at the Silverton Hotel, what a feed!
Onwards to Bourke tomorrow 👍

Fair effort today, finished the Oodnadatta track at Maree, then pushed on to Copley for camp. Luckily no mech issues. Had a refreshment at Maree’s roadhouse, pushed on for a top up at the Lyndhurst roadhouse. Currently now on a stroll past the Copley Hotel to the tucker with the other drivers.

May or may not have had some fuel line issues, but all sorted now. We pulled over to watch the sunset, enjoy a beer and contemplate.

Bu**er all service at the moment, but left Oodnadatta at about 8:25, just pulled up at William Creek for a quick re-fill.

On the road for the biggest days drive of the rally, Yulara to Oodnadatta with 211km of dirt, corrugations, washouts and bulldust, wish us luck!
