We've launched our Backing the Bush campaign today at the National Bush Summit, calling on all political parties to commit to practical action that will strengthen regional, rural and remote communities ahead of the March 2027 NSW election.

"The people who live, work and raise families in the bush deserve access to the same opportunities, essential services and quality of life as anyone else in New South Wales," State President, Tanya Jolly said.

CWA of NSW was represented at this week's Premier's Rural, Remote and Regional Advisory Council (PRRRAC) meeting, with CEO Danica Leys attending as delegate for State President Tanya Jolly, who holds CWA's seat on the Council.

PRRRAC brings together representatives from across regional NSW, including the NSW Country Mayors Association, NSW Isolated Children's Parents' Association, Business NSW, Destination Country & Outback NSW, NSW Regional Cities, NSW Local Land Services, Rural Doctors Network, NSW Farmers Association, the NSW Aboriginal Land Council and the NSW Joint Organisation Chairs Forum. This meeting's discussion covered drought, housing, transport and skills shortages affecting regional communities.

CWA doesn't set the agenda alone but being in the room means rural and regional concerns stay part of the conversation.

While in Sydney, Danica also attended the public gallery as the petition opposing the Bayswater to Walcha transmission line was tabled in Parliament.

A win for CWA of NSW advocacy that has the potential to change lives! In 2024 CWA of NSW adopted policy calling for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) to be made a notifiable condition in New South Wales. We are pleased to report that the NSW Government has listened and has now taken this important step.

By requiring MND diagnosis to be reported to a new state registry, researchers and clinicians will have access to better information about where cases are occurring and whether there are common environmental, occupational or other factors that may help unlock answers and assisting in treating this devastating disease.

For families living with MND every step toward better understanding this disease matters.

The Country Women's Association of NSW says the 2026-27 NSW Budget reads like a plan for Sydney, with regional, rural and remote communities left searching for their share of a record spend.

"Rural communities are still struggling to see a doctor, still losing maternity services, still dealing with mobile black spots that have not moved in a decade. This Budget does not answer those problems. It does not even seriously attempt to." State President, Tanya Jolly said.
