Joel Bowden our local MLA has confirmed by letter to Friends of Bagot Park that the Labour Party, if elected, has committed
$2M for “changeroom facilities including officials’ facilities and kiosk” for Bagot Park community sports groups and
$400K towards shared paths, tree planting and more beautification works for Bagot Park.
Presumably the “officials/ facilities and kiosk” refers to Clubrooms as detailed in the Bagot Park Master Plan Sports Hub. Joel Bowden has advised Friends of Bagot Park that the $400 thousand is for the Community Hub on the Eastern side of the Velodrome.

The mahogany tree that still stands at the end of Bradshaw Crescent was to be removed for the construction of the new footpath but…….. a goshawks nest was discovered high in the tree. Three eggs were seen in the nest, so the tree contractors will not remove the tree until the eggs have hatched and the fledglings have flown away. NT Fauna Solutions have advised that the eggs are expected to hatch in the second or third week in July. After hatching the baby birds (known as branchlings) need to learn to fly and will spend some time practicing their flying skills in the branches. It is anticipated the young goshawks will leave their home and nest to find new homes (hopefully somewhere in Bagot Park) sometime in August. The mahogany tree is planned for removal in September.
How’s that for a good story?

Work has commenced to to extend the recently constructed path along the Bagot Park car park to Sabine Road as per the Bagot Park Master Plan.
Twenty three trees were assessed and unfortunately nine trees will have to be removed. Most of these trees are mahoganies.
Fifty three trees will be planted along the path through a community tree planting event in August/September. The trees will all be irrigated.
Whilst it is sad to see the trees go it will be nice to have a wide walking path completed and the new path will add value to our park.
The Bagot Park Master Plan details heavy tree planting around the perimeter of the park to create a shady canopy and protection from busy roads and vehicle pollution. This has yet to be funded and we need to be advocating strongly for this to happen.
