Welcome to the team Emma!!

It’s a bit overdue, but we’re thrilled to welcome Emma Hall to the Energy Skills Australia team as our Project Manager for Big Sister: Advanced Mentoring SA/WA! 🎉

Emma joined us back in May and brings over a decade of experience across State and Commonwealth government roles, with expertise in skills planning and policy, organisational development, procurement, IT, and workplace culture. Most recently, she led a major workforce development project with the Clean Energy Council, mapping the skills needs of trade workers in large-scale renewable projects including wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

At ESA, Emma is leading the Big Sister: Advanced Mentoring SA/WA project — an industry-led initiative supporting, retaining, and advancing women electrical apprentices in South Australia and Western Australia. This program is helping to drive real cultural and systemic change across the construction and clean energy sectors.

👏 Please join us in giving Emma a warm (if slightly overdue) welcome to the team!

Did you know?

In 2024, the Electrotechnology Trades Assistant Upskilling Program (ETAUP) was successfully delivered by Energy Skills Australia on behalf of the Electrical Trades Union NSW branch, funded through the NSW Department of Education Trade Pathway Innovation Fund Grant.

📢 What is ETAUP?
ETAUP established a quality, industry-accepted skills recognition and upskilling pathway for Australian citizens and residents in NSW who hold electrical qualifications gained overseas.

💡 Pilot Program Success

✔ 25 participants successfully engaged in the pathway
✔ NSW Office of Fair Trading accepted the ATCS to issue provisional trades certificates
✔ Industry stakeholders recommended that ETAUP continue as a permanent pathway under a user-pays model
✔ Demonstrated the rigour required to meet Australia’s electrical licensing standards

This project highlights the quality, safety, and skills standards required for electrical work in Australia. A massive step forward in addressing workforce gaps while maintaining industry integrity!

👏 A big thank you to all involved in making this a reality!
