🌻 Celebrating our June Mater Foundation Community Heroes 🌻

Meet Keirson, Jody and Karla — the heart behind one of the Kalbar Sunflowers Festival’s most loved traditions, the Pick Your Own stand.

Keirson’s journey with cancer led her to Mater Cancer Care Centre Springfield, where she met festival founders Jenny & Russell Jenner while both Keirson and Russell were receiving treatment at Mater Cancer Care Centre Springfield.

What began as a connection through treatment grew into a lasting friendship — and, with the support of Jody and Karla, a shared commitment to give back through volunteering and fundraising for cancer services.

Each year, they show up before the gates open — preparing the stand, welcoming thousands of visitors, and creating an experience filled with warmth and connection, no matter the conditions. Every dollar raised helps advance cancer care at Mater, supporting patients and families when it matters most.

Keirson, Jody and Karla, thank you for turning community spirit into meaningful impact.

The new Mater Hospital Springfield has become the first hospital in Queensland to receive the Intuitive da Vinci 5 surgical assist robot.

The $4.2 million da Vinci 5 allows surgeons to perform complex, minimally invasive keyhole surgery.

The da Vinci 5 was delivered to Springfield thanks to Mater Foundation , which received generous donations from Springfield City Group, the Nudgee Trust, Cheryl Nicholson and the Wu family for the purchase.

Springfield-based Mater Urologist Dr Stuart Philip, who was instrumental in advocating for the acquisition of the da Vinci 5, says the technology will be put to great use.

“The da Vinci 5 will be able to assist surgeons to perform surgery – including cancer surgeries – across urology, gynaecology and general procedures in a minimally invasive way,” Dr Philip said.

The robot has arrived during the six-week phased opening of Mater Hospital Springfield’s services, which will be completed on May 25 when the facility’s Emergency Department opens.

A heartfelt thank you to Dana Yu and the Australia Asian Technology Education Culture Organisation Inc. AATeco for hosting the Bubble Tea Festival in April.

Supported by more than 20 Taiwanese enterprises and community businesses, the event brought people together including a two-day Bubble Tea workshop in support of Mater Little Miracles, where over 300 parents and children participated.

Together, the festival raised $12,000 for Mater Little Miracles to help fund life-saving care for premature and critically ill babies.

Thank you to everyone who supported, joined, donated or shared, your generosity is helping Queensland families when it matters most. 💙

When Mater Mothers’ Springfield opened this week, it reflected the strength of local generosity in action. 💙

Ipswich Parents and Old Boys generously donated $3,000 to support Mater Little Miracles and Mater Hospital Springfield, marking a third year of partnership with Mater Foundation. Inspired by stories from the Nine Telethon for Mater Little Miracles, their support is helping change lives.

These funds support care for the tiniest patients - babies who need warmth, stability and specialised care, close to home.

Thank you to Ipswich Parents and Old Boys for three years of generosity helping make a meaningful difference for families.

Meet our newest Community Hero from Mackay, Michelle Bath. 💗

Michelle hosted her first Breasties Soirée for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in 2024 and has since raised more than $30,000 across two incredible events.

By bringing a patient’s voice to the heart of her Soirée, Michelle helps guests understand why their support matters and the difference it makes. With the backing of a passionate local community, she’s already planning the next Soirée for this year!

We’re grateful for Michelle’s dedication and generous support, which continues to inspire the Mackay community. 💗
