Help support Queensland's tiniest patients this September.πŸ’™

Costco Wholesale Australia stores in North Lakes, Ipswich and Coomera are once again supporting Mater Little Miracles through their annual in-store token campaign.

From 1-30 September, every donation token purchased will help fund specialised neonatal equipment and life-saving research for premature and critically ill babies at Mater.

Since 2015, Costco members have raised an incredible $785,000 to help give Queensland babies the best possible start to life.

Your support helps fund essential equipment used by Mater's specialist neonatal teams every day, helping care for babies born too soon or requiring critical care in their earliest days.

If you're visiting Costco this month, purchase a donation token and help more babies receive the care they need to survive and thrive.

🌟Celebrating the August Mater Foundation Community Hero 🌟

This month, we’re recognising the Ipswich Parents & Old Boys, a volunteer-led group turning community spirit into meaningful impact for local families.

Inspired by the Nine Telethon supporting Mater Little Miracles and the vision for Mater Hospital Springfield, the group has raised an incredible $9,000 over the past three years through weekly meat tray raffles and community fundraising events at CSI Ipswich.

What started as a simple desire to give back has grown into a lasting commitment to helping babies and families across the Greater Springfield region. Week after week, volunteers give their time, sell raffle tickets and bring their community together for a shared purpose.

Their generosity is helping ensure local families can access exceptional maternity and newborn care closer to home.

Thank you to everyone from the Ipswich Parents & Old Boys, for their ongoing commitment to supporting babies and families in their local community.

For more than a decade, Plantation Homes has been helping change the lives of Mater's tiniest patients through the House for Life partnership.

This year's beautiful Wavell Heights family home goes to auction this Saturday, 8 August, with all proceeds donated through Mater Foundation to support Mater Little Miracles. πŸ”¨πŸ‘

Funds raised through House for Life help fund specialist equipment, research and patient care for the approximately 1,700 premature and seriously ill babies cared for in Mater's Neonatal Critical Care Unit each year.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Plantation Homes, along with the many volunteer trades and suppliers whose generosity and commitment make House for Life possible. Together, you are helping make a difference for Queensland babies and their families. πŸ’™

Congratulations to Mater clinician researchers who have been awarded funding through the 2026 Nine Telethon research grants. πŸŽ‰

Thanks to the incredible generosity of the community and the Australian Government's $2 million contribution to this year's Nine Telethon supporting Mater Little Miracles, these research projects will help drive new discoveries in maternal, fetal and neonatal health.

βœ… Professor Ju-Lee Oei – awarded two grants to advance the Tiny Baby Initiative and evaluate care models for infants with prenatal methamphetamine exposure.

βœ… Professor Sailesh Kumar – developing advanced imaging approaches to identify babies most at risk before birth, enabling earlier intervention and more personalised care.

βœ… Dr Elizabeth Hurrion and Associate Professor Paul Dawson – leading a clinical trial investigating intravenous sodium sulfate as a potential treatment to help prevent cerebral palsy in preterm infants.

βœ… Dr Tugba Alarcon-Martinez – investigating how different non-invasive respiratory supports affect lung development in preterm and low birthweight babies after extubation.

βœ… Professor Helen Liley – investigating improvements to umbilical cord management at birth.

βœ… Dr Ana Ferreira – determine whether advanced prenatal imaging can identify babies at risk of severe neonatal brain injury before birth.

These projects build on Mater's long-standing commitment to research that translates into better health outcomes for Queensland families and patients around the world.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Nine Telethon. Together, you're helping fund research and care that has the potential to save lives and improve outcomes for generations to come.

For more than 37 years, the Tzu Chi community has been a valued partner of Mater Foundation, supporting our mission through generosity, volunteering and community engagement.

We were recently delighted to welcome nursing students from Tzu Chi University, providing an opportunity to celebrate this longstanding partnership and the impact their community has helped create.

As the next generation of healthcare professionals, these students represent the future of that commitment to caring for others and strengthening communities.
