On behalf of the Blue Economy CRC team, we'd like to congratulate our latest PhD graduate, Dr Brett Bolte.

Brett commenced his PhD with us back in October 2021, working with Prof Kylie Pitt team at Griffith University and the team at CSIRO in Hobart, researching a cost-effective and continuous monitoring method for disease identification and potential prevention of large-scale outbreaks, including algal and bacterial blooms and parasites such as amoeba in the Tasmanian aquaculture industry.

"I just want to say thank you for all of the support throughout my candidature. There were so many things offered that were extremely valuable to my development as a researcher. Being a part of the BE CRC had a large impact on my research, and its reputation enabled connections to be made with industry throughout my candidature."

On behalf of the team Brett, we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours and look forward to seeing your next steps.

NEW RESEARCH LAUNCHED INTO OFFSHORE WIND IN AUSTRALIA

Our latest project, in conjunction with University of Tasmania, CSIRO and industry partners, will develop clear, realistic scenarios for how offshore wind farms could be built and operated in the Gippsland region of Australia in the decade 2030 to 2040.

The project team led by Philip Marsh, University of Tasmania, will produce a structured suite of future development scenarios for offshore wind in the Gippsland Offshore Energy Infrastructure area, describing the timing, scale and spatial footprint of construction and operations.

The project will map when and where offshore wind infrastructure may be installed and provide key inputs for environmental and noise modelling, delivering practical, defensible data and guidance to support future assessments and planning.

On behalf of the Board and the Blue Economy CRC team, we'd like to thank and farewell Dr Maia Schweizer for her time as Director on the Blue Economy CRC Board and her valued contributions and guidance over the last three years. We wish Maia the best in her continued role as Chief Operating Officer at Snowy Hydro and her continued leadership in the renewable energy sector.

“It’s been a privilege to support a team that’s genuinely demonstrating what CRCs can deliver at their best — translating research into real-world impact at scale. The CRC is well-positioned for its next phase. I’ll be watching with interest and cheering the team on as it enters its home stretch.”

🎓 Well, what a good news Friday this is!

Announcing our latest PhD Graduate, Dr Kelly Hoareau!

Kelly's PhD explored knowledge mobilisation in support of a more sustainable blue economy, recognising how collaboration, networks, and access to knowledge influence the development of sustainable ocean industries.

"Thank you for creating a space that accommodates diversity and life so well, enabling people from all walks of life to access meaningful opportunities for growth and to engage with a dynamic, innovative, and supportive program and team. I am very grateful for the generosity, time, and guidance offered by so many across the BE CRC community. The impact you have had on me, and on many other ocean professionals who are starting out, or building their careers, is significant and long-lasting."

On behalf of the entire Blue Economy CRC team, congratulations! 🎉
