It’s great to see the State Budget announcement for the delivery of 16 new industrial lots in Newman! This investment will support local business growth and create further opportunity for Newman to continue supporting the region.

A big thank you to the Shire of East Pilbara, Newman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, DevelopmentWA and local Newman businesses for their collaboration to achieve this outcome for Newman.

We look forward to seeing the opportunities this will unlock for local businesses and the broader community.

When organisations work together towards a common goal, great things get done.

This is exactly what happened at Newman Bring a Bill Day at Boomerang Park last month.

Services from all over the Pilbara and Western Australia came together to support Newman residents, with free advice about saving on bills, paying taxes, housing, legal matters and other important issues.

A big thank you to Pilbara Community Legal Services for organising the day, as well as Westpac, the Shire of East Pilbara, BHP and all of the services that delivered support.

Thank you to the Newman Women’s Shelter for cooking up a free barbecue, Kuuwa Rentals for supplying the Tucker Truck and Curtin University for donating the meat.

Since 2021, Martu Patrol have continued to support young Martu People by providing hot food and water, and a safe space in the community.

The Martu Patrol program was the product of collaboration with Martu leaders, the Newman Womens Shelter, Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa, Western Australia Police Force, BHP Western Australia, Newman Futures and the Newman Feedback Group with the goal of working together in new ways to keep young Martu people safe.

🌟 Celebrating Five Years of Newman Futures! 🌟

Over the past five years, local organisations, businesses, and community members have worked together towards a shared vision of building a diverse and sustainable economy that is inclusive to all.

Since inception a strong commitment to collaboration has brought together more than 80 organisations and we've achieved positive, sustainable impact together with the co-creation of 11 pilot projects and 26 strategies.

Last week we gathered at Mia Mia to celebrate these collective achievements and reflect on the meaningful actions that have driven change in our community.

A huge thank you to everyone involved, including Martu advisor Melvin Farmer, Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation CEO Cate Ballantyne, Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service CEO Robby Chibawe, Newman Women’s Shelter CEO Arina Aoina, and Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa General Manager Tristan Cole who spoke at the celebration.

And a big thank you to all the dedicated organisations, businesses and community members who have collaborated with Newman Futures since 2019!

Newman Futures is supported by BHP and will continue to bring the community together to create positive outcomes locally.

Community connection also means supporting those in need. As we reflect on the past 5 years, it’s heartening to see projects like ‘Food in the Park’ making a real difference. Did you know that this incredible partner initiative provides over 200 meals a week to east Newman residents, offering much needed support to families in need?

Supported by BHP Western Australia and Newman Futures, in collaboration with Newman Womens Shelter and Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa, Food in the Park helps families facing insecurity, contributing to a safer and healthier community.
