It is part of the CIFAL Global Network of training centres affiliated to the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). The International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Newcastle (CIFAL Newcastle) was created in 2015 as a collaboration between the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the University of Newcastle (UoN) with the objective o
f providing training opportunities to government officials and civil society leaders from Australia and Asia-Pacific. CIFAL Newcastle offers training activities on disaster management ad risk reduction, and the implementation on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through its training activities, the Centre facilitates multi-stakeholder collaboration and best practices exchange. UoN was selected by UNITAR to host the CIFAL Newcastle due to its leadership in innovative training on disaster management and emergency response. Training areas:

About UNITAR & the CIFAL Global Network
CIFAL Global Network is the network of training centers affiliated with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). El Centro Internacional de Formación de Autoridades y Líderes en Newcastle (CIFAL Newcastle) fue creado en el 2015 como una colaboración entre el Instituto de las Naciones Unidas para la Formación Profesional e Investigaciones (UNITAR) y la Universidad de Newcastle (UoN), con el objetivo de brindar oportunidades de capacitación a funcionarios públicos y líderes de la sociedad civil de Australia y Asia-Pacifico. CIFAL Newcastle ofrece capacitación en gestión del riesgo de desastres, e implementación de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) a nivel local. A través de sus actividades de formación también contribuye a facilitar la colaboración y el intercambio de buenas prácticas. La Universidad de Newcastle fue seleccionada por UNITAR para ser anfitriona del Centro CIFAL Newcastle debido a su liderazgo en el área de reducción del riesgo de desastres y respuesta ante emergencias.
