RUN DIPG is an Australian charity, dedicated to improving outcomes of patients facing 'diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma' (DIPG).

Primarily diagnosed in kids, there are no treatments, no cure, and median survival is less than 1 year.

Meet PhD candidate and scholarship recipient Emma De Somer 🌟

The amazing Emma joined the Dun Lab at the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) earlier this year as the recipient of The Bob Edwards & Family PhD Scholarship in Paediatric Cancer. She is exploring how we can understand and utilise the immune system to fight DIPG/DMG, an important step towards more personalised immunotherapies.💛🔬

Last month, she fundraised and ran the 10km at the Gold Coast Marathon, alongside many of our amazing RUN DIPG supporters.

We are very excited to have Emma joining us in the lab and can’t wait to see what she achieves!

Last month Team Tommy held a DIPG Trivia Night fundraising for some amazing charities. "Everyone knew we were giving for the most important cause, raising funds for the three charities that helped Thomas and our family during our darkest times - Starlight, Camp Quality and RunDIPG.” - Amanda, Tommy’s Mum🎗💕

The night was a huge success, with Tom’s designs on t-shirts, signed racing shirts and signed NRL jerseys all auctioned off. The trivia involved a general knowledge round, a music (guess the song name and artist round) and a round all about Thomas.

Well done to Team Tommy, who raised $12,000 ($4,000 for each charity!) Thank you to everyone who donated, bid on auctions, organised the event and contributed💛

Last week we came together for the ANZCHOG Annual Scientific Meeting in Newcastle, uniting colleagues from across Australia and New Zealand, all working towards one goal - ending the suffering associated with childhood cancer. 🎗🔬

We are very proud to share that former Dun Lab PhD student and now postdoc, Izac Findlay, received the New Investigator Award and an international travel scholarship thanks to Jazz Pharmaceuticals.

Dun Lab’s Mika Persson gave an elegant presentation on systemic immune dysfunction in DMG and Professor Matt Dun OAM delivered a plenary in the opening session of the conference, sharing his journey from blood cancer to DIPG/DMG research in the pursuit of better treatments, and to update our amazing parent, advocacy and consumer network on progress in research and treatments/trials.

RUN DIPG was privileged to support the ANZCHOG gala dinner with our CEO Jo Bennett giving an incredible speech on where we've come from and where we're going as a charity. 💛

There is still so much work to be done, but bringing researchers, clinicians, families and advocates together with a shared purpose is how we keep

Last weekend was one of our favourite family and community event that really highlights how incredible this community is. The annual Amber Hughes Day at Dudley Magpies RLFC honours a player who was a funny, bright and beautiful girl who devastatingly passed away from DIPG just before her 18th birthday in 2022. 🌻💕

All the amazing Dudley Redhead JRLFC - Mighty Magpies and senior teams looked amazing in their pink Amber jerseys. Thank you to the incredible committee and club at Dudley Magpies for again making such a special day possible. Also to the sponsors, organisers and those who came down to support some good footy for a great cause.
