A whole lot of cans, some very helpful little hands and one wonderful volunteer. ♻️💛

We’d like to give a special shout-out to our Return and Earn volunteer Cheree O’Neill, pictured here with some of her helpers from East Maitland Public School!

Cheree and her helpers have been busy collecting eligible cans and containers around East Maitland, with the proceeds going directly towards supporting ENCORE.

It’s such a simple way to turn something that would otherwise be thrown away into support for women following breast cancer, and we’re incredibly grateful for the effort Cheree and her helpers continue to put in.

Eligible cans and containers can now be taken to the Vinnies collection points at Rutherford or Cardiff to support ENCORE.

LESS THAN TWO WEEKS TO GO! 👟

Walk for ENCORE is getting very close, and thanks to our incredible walkers, fundraisers and supporters, we’ve already raised $15,851 towards our $30,000 goal!

But we’re not there yet.

Every dollar raised through Walk for ENCORE helps us continue offering our eight-week ENCORE breast cancer recovery program free of charge to women across the Hunter.

So, with two weeks to go, we’re asking our community to get behind us.

Our Walk for ENCORE Online Auction is officially LIVE! (and trust us, there are some pretty incredible prizes up for grabs!)

Thanks to the generosity of some wonderful local businesses, we've pulled together a fantastic collection of auction items, all to help raise funds for our free ENCORE breast cancer recovery program.

Celebrating 105 years of YWCA Hunter and 28 years of ENCORE.

2026 marks two pretty special milestones for our community.

For 105 years, YWCA Hunter has been part of the Hunter community; evolving, adapting and continuing to create opportunities for women to connect, participate and feel supported.

And for 28 of those years, ENCORE has been supporting women following breast cancer, with our Hunter program beginning back in 1998.

A lot has changed over the years, but the importance of community hasn’t.

To every member, participant, volunteer, staff member, Board member, supporter and friend of the Y who has been part of our story - past or present - thank you.

What a privilege it is to carry that history forward.

Girls who are learning, leading, questioning, creating and taking up space.

International Day of the Girl is a reminder that every girl deserves equal rights and the opportunity to learn, grow, make her own choices and shape her own future.

At YWCA Hunter, empowering women and girls sits at the heart of who we are.

Through programs that build confidence, practical skills, strength, connection and independence, we want girls to know just how capable they are, and to grow up in a world that recognises it too.

So today, we’re celebrating girls everywhere.

Today is World Mental Health Day.

Here in Australia, Mental Health Australia is encouraging us to think about “Together We Thrive” and the role connection, belonging and community can play in supporting our wellbeing.

That idea of connection resonates strongly with us at YWCA Hunter.

Sometimes it’s found in the big conversations. Other times it’s simply turning up to a class, sharing a cuppa, checking in with someone or spending an hour around people who make you feel welcome.

Today is a good reminder to make room for those conversations, listen to people’s experiences and keep creating communities where people feel heard, valued and connected.

Some skills are worth carrying with you for life. 💪

Self defence isn’t about expecting something bad to happen. It’s about building confidence, awareness and practical skills that can help you feel more capable in everyday situations.

Our upcoming Self Defence Empowerment Follow-Up Workshop gives previous participants the opportunity to refresh what they’ve learned, practise their skills and continue building confidence.

Walking 3km works up an appetite…luckily, the Lions Club has us covered!

We’re so grateful to have the Lions Club of Newcastle supporting Walk for ENCORE this year and generously helping keep our participants fed on the day.

It takes a whole community to bring Walk for ENCORE together, and having wonderful groups who show up and lend a hand year after year means so much to us.

A huge thank you to the Lions Club Newcastle for being part of the Walk for ENCORE family in 2026.
