Merewether Mackerels The Merewether Mackerels are the premier Winter Swimmng Club in the Newcastle area (just ask any of our members).

The club was formed in 1972 by members of the Merewether Surf Life Saving Club. The club welcomes swimmers of all ages (our youngest member is 11, our oldest 98) and abilities. The Mackerels are the only club in the district to proudly accept men and women members. We swim every Sunday morning (swimming starts at 8.30 am) from May through to September at the magnificent Merewether Ocean Baths, located in Merewether, Newcastle. Wishing John ( soupy) Campbell a speedy recovery! John has been a member of the Mackerels for over 20 years and achieved 100% swimmer every year. John also has been our starter for a lot of seasons.
John had a serious fall and is in hospital at the moment he is not allowed any visitors. Tam if you would keep us updated on his recovery and when he can have visitors.
