OCTOBER IS MENTAL HEALTH MONTH

Mental Health Month is celebrated every October in NSW and across Australia to raise awareness about wellbeing, to reduce social stigma and to encourage help-seeking.

The official 2026 theme is "A Little Connection Goes a Long Way," focusing on how everyday interactions and self-care build support.

World Mental Health Day is October 10.

This month highlights both interpersonal connections - talking to neighbours, calling a friend, playing with your pets - and self-connection like hobbies and quiet reflection.

✅Connect locally by participating in community events, workshops, or webinars run by universities, councils, and health centres.

✅Check in - reach out to friends, family, or colleagues and have a conversation.

🌟 Jesmond update for January 🌟

From 10-31 January, The Canopy will be pausing all Canopy delivered activities at Jesmond Neighbourhood Centre.

This is a planned operational reset so we can review, plan, and come back stronger and better with activities set up for success in the year ahead 💛✅

✅ What this means
• All Canopy programs and volunteer run activities will be on pause for January
• Other groups and venue hirers using the space independently will continue as normal and should follow their usual venue access process with council

📣 We’ll share an update toward the end of January about what February looks like.
