The latest Quarterly Report from the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) reveals that domestic violence continues to rise across the Hunter, with all nine local government areas recording increases in domestic violence related assaults over the past decade.
In the past two years DV related assaults have increased by:
▪️ 21.4% in Cessnock
▪️ 14% in Newcastle
▪️ 9.2% in Singleton
Ahead of next week’s NSW State Budget, the Hunter DFV Consortium is calling on the NSW Government to deliver a significant increase in funding for specialist domestic and family violence services.
Without greater investment, victim-survivors will continue to face barriers to accessing the support they need, and frontline services will remain under immense pressure.
These rising rates of DV assaults cannot be ignored. The cost of inaction is measured in lives, safety, and the wellbeing of families across the Hunter.
Chris Minns Daniel Mookhey MLC the evidence is undeniable. The need is urgent. The time to act is now.
