Clinical trials are the essential tool which proves that a new treatment or prevention strategy is effective and safe before it is made widely available to women with breast cancer or who are at risk. 56 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia and New Zealand every day. Each of these women can receive a treatment which has been through the rigorous clinical trials research process and

today, they are more likely to survive longer and free of breast cancer than at any other time in history.

MEET OUR EXPERT PANEL

Join us online from 5:00–6:30pm (AEST), Wednesday 16 September for our free Q&A: Metastatic Breast Cancer.

Moderated by author and journalist Annabel Crabb, this session will provide a compassionate and informative space to explore the questions many people living with metastatic breast cancer—and those who love and care for them—are asking.

Featuring:
Dr Nicholas Zdenkowski: Medical oncologist with a strong interest in breast cancer clinical practice and research, and Chair of the Breast Cancer Trials Scientific Advisory Committee. Nick is also the study chair of the Breast Cancer Trials CAMBRIA-2 clinical trial.

Professor Lisa Beatty: Professor in clinical psychology at Flinders University with over 20 years of research and clinical expertise. Lisa has led the development of multiple digital psycho-oncology programs including Finding My Way-Advanced, targeted towards supporting metastatic breast cancer patients.

Dr Andrea Smith: Diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in 2016 and an early career researcher involved in collaborative, multi-disciplinary research in fields of health promotion and disease prevention, with a current focus on the application of implementation science and practice across the cancer continuum, specifically in metastatic breast cancer and melanoma.

Ms Sarah Lee: Diagnosed with de-novo ER+ HER2 low metastatic breast cancer in April 2017 at the age of 41. Since her diagnosis, Sarah has run 13 marathons and a 54km ultra-marathon, hiked over 400km of the Camino Trail in Spain and is planning for more marathons in the future. Sarah is a member of the Breast Cancer Trials Consumer Advisory Panel.

💗 Research is helping create new treatment possibilities for younger women with breast cancer.

The OLIO clinical trial is investigating whether adding newer therapies to standard chemotherapy before surgery can improve outcomes for premenopausal women with HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer.

Researchers hope the study will lead to more effective treatment options in the future.

The staff & researchers at Breast Cancer Trials are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our wonderful supporters, Georgie.

Georgie was, incredibly, the highest fundraiser of our 57km Dog Walk Challenge in 2024 and also took part in the 100km in July Challenge last year, collectively raising over $7,500 for breast cancer research.

Since her passing, Georgie's legacy has continued through a fundraising page established in her memory, which has already raised over $6,000 thanks to the support from her friends, family and loved ones.

We have been deeply touched by Georgie's ongoing commitment to supporting our clinical trials research. We can’t express enough how grateful we are for the lasting impact she has made.

We send our heartfelt condolences to Georgie's family and friends during this heartbreaking time. She has left an incredible legacy that truly inspires us all ❤️.

Our CEO Karen Price, recently had the privilege of speaking at West Wallsend High School's assembly, sharing the important work we do at Breast Cancer Trials and the impact of clinical research on the lives of those affected by breast cancer.

We are incredibly honoured to have been chosen as the charity beneficiary of the school's annual Cancer Sux fundraising initiative, which has raised more than $100,000 for various charities since it began in 2010.

Cancer Sux brings together hundreds of students and staff for a 13km walk, raising vital funds and awareness for a chosen charity each year.

Thank you to the West Wallsend High School community for choosing to support Breast Cancer Trials. We can't wait to see everyone lace up for next month's walk and help make a difference for breast cancer research. 💗
