This week I had the pleasure of being invited as a guest at Cannon’s executive table for the Forbes Women’s Forum.
When I asked, “Why me?”, I was told it stemmed from the impact of previous talks I had delivered, firstly in 2024, How to Create an Authentic Acknowledgement to Country, and then last year’s NAIDOC Week keynote, where I spoke about the importance of engaging with Community stakeholders in ways that genuinely value-add to where they are at and what they need, a true ground-up approach.
One comment in particular stayed with me:
“When I think of women being brave, breaking the norm, and leading differently, I thought of you.” A beautiful compliment… although part of me also thought, settle down I’m not that old yet! 😂
The Forbes day was brilliant. A room full of strong, thoughtful women sharing stories of leadership, resilience, innovation, and impact. What stood out most was the reminder that leadership doesn’t always look loud or polished. Often, it looks like consistency, backing yourself, making difficult decisions, and continuing to create space for others along the way.
The innovators, the activators, the agitators, the women who don’t see barriers, only opportunities. The start-ups, the pivots, the courage to try something different… what a day.
Two standout moments for me were hearing from Julie Inman Grant PSM , whose leadership and willingness to stand firm in the face of adversity for what is right continues to inspire thank you. And also Gladys Berejiklian, for your empathy, steady leadership during incredibly challenging times, and for being that consistent 11am presence when the world felt uncertain.
These opportunities always leave me reflecting on the importance of representation, authentic relationships, and the power of bringing people together to have honest conversations that move organisations and communities forward.
Thank you to Cannon for inviting me to join your executive table, for the conversations, and for the opportunity to be part of such an inspiring day.
Grateful for the continued reminder that our words and actions often have a much bigger impact than we realise.
