Once you start separating preparation food waste and plate food waste into dedicated food waste buckets and bins, it’s not too difficult. The key is having your team on board and a system in place. Well done to the team for separating their food waste and having it collected by a for composting, rather than sending it to landfill. We are going to share some of the amazing work being done by our local cafes, restaurants and pubs who are making a real difference for our community and the environment.

So good to see food waste management in action. We are so impressed by the manager Eamonn and Head Chef Ian’ s leadership and the whole team for making this part of their daily routine. Since November 2025, the team at 4 Pines at the Farm has been separating their food scraps into 20 L buckets, collected daily and sent straight to on-farm composting at Hunter Valley Horses.
The impact so far
* 4–6 buckets a day
* Around 100 L of food waste diverted daily
* Roughly 6,000 L of food waste saved from landfill to date
Simple systems. Clean separation. Food waste turned back into soil.

From kitchen to garden to plate. ♻️ Food waste isn’t waste here, it has great value.
At The Wood Restaurant, food scraps are separated in a 10L bucket and fed to their worm farm.
The worms turn it into rich compost.
That feeds the garden.
The grows fresh produce.
And the food comes back to the table. A full circle at The Wood Restaurant.
This is circular thinking in action. Simple. Local. Powerful.
