Building Ministers have officially frozen all non-essential residential changes to the National Construction Code (NCC) until mid-2029.

This is a major win for the building and construction industry.

✔ No new residential NCC requirements from 1 May 2026
✔ No further residential energy efficiency upgrades
✔ EV charging infrastructure remains optional
✔ Embodied carbon reporting remains voluntary

Master Builders NSW applauds this move.

“Pragmatic commonsense actions like putting changes to the NCC on hold are what’s needed to get on top of the housing crisis,” said Matthew Po***ck, Executive Director of Master Builders NSW.

This pause gives builders clarity and helps reduce red tape at a time when efficiency is critical.
