🎉Celebrating Speech Pathology Week

Speech Pathology Week recognises the value and impact of speech pathology - communication creates possibility, and speech pathologists help turn possibility into opportunity.

Here at ESTEEM we want to shine a light on our resident speech pathologists Simone and Jocelyn. ✨

Members and supporters of the ESTEEM Research Group (me 😉) have been busy this weekend learning how to deliver the Ronnie Gardiner Method.

A movement to music program that activates the brain - concentration, memory, attention and importantly seeks to promote brain plasticity.

Watch this space for opportunities to come and try it in the next few months. Looking forward to November when we finish our training. Thanks to Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) for a great venue!

Thanks to all those that came in to try it out 👏🥁🎵

We’ve had a very busy Stroke Week in 2026! The ESTEEM Research team, along with Community Stroke Team and JHH Stroke Service have been at John Hunter Hospital and Charlestown Square raising awareness of stroke signs and symptoms.

Do you know the risk factors for stroke? This week we have given out 150 FAST magnets and measured ~ 60 people’s blood pressure - high blood pressure is one of the big risk factors for stroke.

Others in our stroke community have been spreading the word too - the Brainwaves Choir singing at JHH on Tuesday and the YarniYarning up After Stroke up in Tamworth at the launch of the By The Mob for the Mob stroke awareness video.

Stroke awareness includes being aware of what is available and evidenced to support best stroke recovery. The E S T E E M Research Team is partnering with community based services Maitland Community Care Services and Novacare Community Services to determine the benefits of combining exercise, socialisation and creative thinking -twice a week for 10weeks- to strengthen physical capacity and quality of life after stroke. Watch here to learn more about this MRFF, Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI), NSW Health-HNLEHD and The University of Newcastle, Australia sponsored trial ⬇️⬇️⬇️
