Highlights from the Hunter Multicultural Women Connection Dinner

An unforgettable Refugee Week 2026 event celebrating the strength, resilience, and achievements of refugee women in the Hunter.

Hosted by CALD CONNECT Foundation, the evening featured the premiere of "Her Journey, Her Voice: Resilience Stories of Refugee Women in the Hunter", bringing together community members, leaders, and service providers to celebrate diversity, connection, and belonging.

This project celebrates the 2026 Refugee Week theme, "A Million Stories", by highlighting the journeys of four remarkable women who have overcome challenges, built new lives, and made valuable contributions to our communities.

In 2026 Refugee Week, as we celebrate the national theme A Million Stories, we are honoured to share Rigzin's inspiring journey from Tibet to Australia. Her story reflects resilience, courage, and determination as she built a new life in the Hunter while maintaining her cultural identity and contributing positively to her community.

🌏 Meet Saadiya Al Zein, our fourth featured woman in "Her Journey, Her Voice: Resilience Stories of Refugee Women in the Hunter".

As we celebrate Refugee Week 2026 and this year's theme, *A Million Stories*, we are honoured to share Saadiya's inspiring journey from Syria to Australia.

Saadiya's story is one of resilience, determination, and hope. Through the challenges of rebuilding her life in a new country, she remained focused on creating opportunities for her family and future generations. One of her greatest sources of pride is seeing her children grow, succeed, and embrace the opportunities available to them in Australia. Her journey is a powerful reminder of the strength, sacrifice, and dedication that refugee women bring to our communities.

وبمناسبة أسبوع اللاجئين 2026 وتحت شعار هذا العام *مليون قصة*، يسعدنا أن نشارككم رحلة سعدية الملهمة من سوريا إلى أستراليا.

تجسد قصة سعدية معاني الصمود والإصرار والأمل. فبالرغم من التحديات التي واجهتها في بناء حياة جديدة في بلد جديد، واصلت العمل من أجل مستقبل أفضل لعائلتها والأجيال القادمة. ومن أعظم مصادر فخرها أن ترى أبناءها يكبرون وينجحون ويستفيدون من الفرص المتاحة لهم في أستراليا. وتُعد رحلتها مثالاً ملهماً على القوة والتضحية والتفاني الذي تقدمه النساء اللاجئات لمجتمعاتهن.

⚽🌏 What a fantastic start to the Newcastle Multicultural Soccer Tournament 2026!

Teams from diverse cultural backgrounds came together at Heaton Park on 13 and 14 June to celebrate Refugee Week through sport, friendship, and community connection. Thank you to all players, referees, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who made the first two days such a success.
