Thanks to everyone for a successful Convention last Saturday, 8 August! We had 96 people from 26 organisations, with commitments to keep working together this season.

The Convention had delegates discern priorities, landing on Housing and continued Loneliness and Social Isolation work, backed by a Housing Forum and Lobby Day; a focussed set of priorities for the coming Action Season.

Organisations also committed to planning the next phases of Housing and Loneliness work and are actively taking up the Core Team model. We trained new Small Group Leaders, and had six first-time testimonies and five first-time case presentations.

The Alliance now moves into its next phase more grounded and working in stronger relationships—Onward!

The Climate Action Newcastle team attended today’s Hunter Community Alliance Discernment Convention at the Polish Club.

We listened, we learned and we committed to take action on issues that we agreed are important. 🙌

The CALM team attended the Hunter Community Alliance Discernment Convention at the Polish Club today. As new members of the Alliance in 2026, this was our first opportunity to participate in the discernment process and be part of conversations that help shape collective action across our community. We're proud to stand alongside other organisations and community leaders who are committed to listening, learning, and working together to create meaningful change. We're excited about what lies ahead and grateful to be part of this growing movement.

: On 30 April, HCA Co-Chair Teresa Brierley spoke with ABC Newcastle on the afternoon of our first Loneliness and Social Isolation Symposium.

That morning, representatives from around 60 organisations came together to explore how we can build a more connected Hunter, where people have places to belong, opportunities to contribute and support to find their way back into community.

The gathering identified two important areas for further work: (1) social prescribing and link workers, helping connect people with local groups, activities and practical support; and (2) community connectors and welcoming community spaces, creating more opportunities for people to meet, participate and build relationships.

Three months later, Teresa has brought together leaders to continue developing both streams of work - congratulations to her and the action team!

Loneliness and social isolation is one of the campaigns we'll discuss at the HCA Discernment Convention this Saturday, alongside housing, energy, future jobs and public transport. Good stuff on Saturday!
