INSIDE NSW PARLIAMENT: Last Wednesday, leaders from the Hunter Community Alliance and the Sydney Alliance met with 32 MPs and ministers, bringing the power and stories of their communities to the attention of decision-makers. These photos capture just some of those meetings.

Our alliances bring together people from different backgrounds and organisations around the issues they share, from housing and energy, to issues facing temporary migrants, to the future of the Hunter, and to stronger community connection.

We’re building relationships with politicians that continue beyond any one meeting or election, so stay tuned for the next action!

Today, 85 renters and civil society leaders took their stories and priorities directly to NSW Parliament.

As part of the NSW Community Alliance’s Action Launch Day, leaders from across the Hunter and Sydney met with more than 35 MPs and Ministers throughout the day, beginning with renters speaking publicly about what it means to live through extreme heat in homes that simply aren’t built to cope.

Today was only the beginning of our action season. Our leaders will continue taking the experiences of their communities into conversations with decision-makers across the political spectrum in the months ahead.

Before our delegations head next door to Parliament House, around 80 leaders and representatives from faith, union and community organisations across Sydney and the Hunter are gathered at St Stephen’s Uniting Church to prepare for the day ahead.

Erin talks about the issues Hunter leaders are bringing into their meetings today, but are just some of the priorities being raised across the day, with different delegations carrying different issues shaped by their communities and our shared organising work.

This is the launch of our action season, and already there is a real sense of energy, hope and determination in the room!

Community organising is growing in Oz!

Earlier this month, 270 people from 70 organisations gathered in Werribee, Victoria for the first Our West Our Future Assembly.

Their next stage, Our West Listens, will take that work back into communities across Melbourne’s West, with a goal of hearing from 1,000 people by April 2027.

It’s encouraging to see another community alliance taking root, and we’re glad to be part of a wider network supporting this kind of organising across Australia.

Last 4 and 5 September, HCA leaders spent an excellent time over at the beautiful Lake Macquarie Landcare Centre in Booragul for Foundations Training.

Twenty leaders from across the Hunter spent two great days on relational connecting between people and organisations, wrestling with tricky concepts like power and self-interest, and building the relationships that make organising work!
