Background

In 2010 Cultural Partnerships Australia coordinated two key cultural exchange programs for Imagine Australia the Y

ear of Australian Culture in China

The first ‘Hard Sleeper’ brought 8 Indigenous and emerging artists for a one month tour of provincial Chinese cities including Pingyao, Xian, Chengdu, Chongqing & Wuhan where the artists held ‘cross cultural’ forums, toured art studios and met with local Chinese artists, gallery directors and contemporary art collectors

This was followed by a one month Red Gate Studio residency. The work produced during the residency was shown in the highly acclaimed Hard Sleeper exhibition opened by the Hon Kevin Rudd at a VIP event held at Red Gate Gallery, Beijing in October 2010

The second project 'On the Edge – New Media & Hybrid Arts from Australia' involved showcasing the work of 10 of Australia’s best young musicians, film makers, designers sound engineers & technicians to audiences in Beijing, Chengdu & Chongqing
