Are you ready for Pay Day Super? BDV President, Rachel Power, spoke with SmartCompany about what it means for small business, and the importance of being ready.

"As the president of Business Derwent Valley, Rachel says many small business owners are still operating day to day, leaving little room for longer-term planning."

As Payday Super reforms approach, Tasmanian business owner Rachel Power shares how shifting to weekly super payments could help other businesses improve cash flow systems and stay ahead of the curve.

A big day for the Derwent Valley - the Nature Repair Plan for the Derwent Catchment Project has officially launched.

It’s a holistic, science-backed plan focused on real, measurable improvements in catchment health and biodiversity, built through partnership with community, business, and all levels of government.

Business Derwent Valley was excited to be part of this morning’s launch, and we’re proud to support the collaboration and investment that will drive practical, on-ground outcomes. BDV President Rachel Power also proudly sits on the Derwent Catchment Project board, strengthening the connection between tourism, local business and long-term catchment solutions.

Thanks to a $10 million Federal election commitment secured by Rebecca White, this work will help unlock over $200 million in investment — creating a pilot model here in the Derwent Valley that can be scaled nationally.

Proud to see partnerships turning into action — and real outcomes we can measure.

👉 National Park Waste Transfer Station 👈
BDV have been in touch with Derwent Valley Council about the decision to close the National Park tip, and the impact of this on businesses and residents.

Businesses who have paid for a tip key, please send us an email to [email protected] and we will work with Council for access next week. Alternatively, key holders can use the Peppermint Hill tip free of charge during opening hours.

Businesses who require tip access and do not have a key, please also email us.

The Council CEO has assured us that the tip is not closing for good. Remedial works will start Monday with a view to reopening as soon as possible to the public. Changes to access may happen, and we have requested clear communication to alleviate misinformation and angst in the community.

If residents or businesses in the Upper Derwent Valley have any questions about this, please email and we will attempt to get these answered for you.

We have been assured the closure was a necessary safety issue and will be rectified as soon as possible.

This is what action looks like.

When uncertainty hit the small business community, we didn't wait. We created the Choose Your Own Adventure marketing framework last year. It was designed as a way for small businesses to stay nimble, respond quickly to changing markets, and to work together for stronger outcomes.

And look what happened. Real businesses, real outcomes. The Electric Valley Escape; a beautifully crafted long weekend that brings together Derwent Valley businesses, local producers, and authentic experiences. This is the direct result from our first marketing workshop.

This is what collaboration looks like in action. When small businesses share knowledge, support each other's growth, and align around a shared vision, we create something bigger than any one of us could alone. We create experiences that matter. We create reasons for people to visit. We create economic momentum.

The market changes. The economy shifts. But businesses that are connected, informed, and ready to act? They don't just survive—they thrive. They innovate. They lead.

If you're a small business in the Derwent Valley ready to be part of this momentum, this is your invitation. Join Business Derwent Valley. Tap into our network, learn from our community.

Because the best time to build resilience is before you need it, and the best way to do it is together.
