Does your child get easily overwhelmed or frustrated, and you’re not quite sure how to help in the moment?
When we teach children to read, we don’t just hand them a book and expect it to click. We model it, repeat it, and support them through everyday routines as they learn letters, sounds, and how they come together to form meaning.
Social and emotional skills work the same way. They also need to be taught explicitly.
It’s easy to tell a child to “calm down,” but for them, that doesn’t always mean anything. They’re still learning what that actually looks like, feels like, and sounds like.
Through the Pyramid Model facilitated here at Puddles, we teach families and educators that children aged 3–5 need clear actions and language to help them solve problems. When a child can recognise what’s happening and has the steps to work through it, overwhelm and big behaviours become much more manageable.
We explore this further in our Sensory and Self-Regulation Workshop held in Adelaide this May.
This workshop is ideal for parents & caregivers, Allied Health Professionals or anyone supporting children and families. Everyone is welcome.
