The Sheilas Shack is a non-profit organisation where women meet to share knowledge & skills, build friendships, and have an opportunity to attend workshops & activities. The Sheilas Shack is located at Country Paradise Parklands, 231 Beaudesert-Nerang Road, Nerang Qld 4211. Our organisation promotes women’s health and wellbeing, while providing an opportunity for all women from all walks of life,
from young mothers and working women to retirees, to connect with others in the community. We also try to connect with those who may otherwise be isolated or not know how to be involved in our local community. The Sheilas Shack is open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 9am to 12pm when everyone is welcome to call in for a Cuppa & Chat. On Thursdays many play cards and on Saturdays we often have workshops and other organised activities. The Sheilas Shack has a Book Club whose members meet once a month to discuss the latest book over a shared lunch. We recently started a Poetry Group facilitated by our Life Member Beryl - also meeting once a month over a shared lunch. We offer a variety of ever-changing workshops for our members. These have included : CPR Emergency First Aid, Arakan Ladies Self Defence, Road Safety & Tyre Changing (Nerang Police), Indigenous Connection - Local History & Aboriginal Art (Dot Painting), Drumming, Computers & iPhones for Beginners, Mosaics, Felting, Acrylic Painting, Charcoal Painting, Crystals, Making Jewellery, Knit & Crochet, Decoupage, Drop Spindle Spinning, Macramé, Resin Cheeseboards, Floral Arrangement and the list goes on! The charge for workshops varies from $2 and depends on the cost of materials needed for a particular workshop. We occasionally have demonstrations which have included Candle Making, Beeswax Food Covers, and Cooking demonstrations - including Pasta Making, Gnocchi, Italian Donuts and Curries. We have even had make up demonstrations! Over the years we have had many guest speakers offer an insight into a variety of different topics. Members can come along to our monthly lunch at one of the local restaurants, dinners at Nerang RSL and theatre nights at Javeenbah Theatre or one of the other local theatres. Sometimes members also visit places outside the Sheilas Shack, like the Mudbrick Cottage Herb Farm at Mudgeeraba and the Crystal Castle in Mullumbimby. Annual Membership is $30 and there is an attendance fee of $2 per visit which covers the cost of tea/coffee, morning tea etc. As one of several non-profit community groups at Country Paradise, we participate in local events, like the markets or the Family Funanza day, a collaborative effort of many community groups and organisations in Nerang. We sometimes organise joint workshops with other community groups, eg making Native Beehives and the Bird Nesting boxes at the Men's Shed for placement throughout the parklands by the Riverkeepers. We have painted and decorated fence palings which have been placed in the Sensory Garden in the Parklands. It's a wonderful thing when the community works together for the good and wellbeing of everyone! The Sheilas Shack always supports people in our community who need help, especially those in crisis situations. We also provide monetary donations to help positive change. For example, a Trivia Night we organised and donated all profits to the charity RizeUp who assist to rehouse women and families escaping domestic violence. We have also assisted local homeless people, knitting blankets/ponchos and beanies, as well as providing basic bathroom supplies for Support the Girls and Rosies for distribution. We are currently supporting Hearts of Purple, a not for profit charity who assist high risk domestic violence victims. Visitors are always welcome at the Sheilas Shack. Call in for a cuppa, check out our events and workshops and see what all the fuss is about! For more information, email: [email protected]

Supreme Winner Helen G - A Whole Farmyard Concotion

We did Eileen's annual unboiled egg throwing contest (this year there were a few crackers when they hit the trees, road and pole😆 but we had lots more that remained unbroken, with several winners. Throwing the rubber chook into the bucket - Helen F.'s throw was the first win! Drawing a rabbit while wearing a blindfold was tricky and the little chickens bouncing on the tables was an addition to our barnyard of fun 🤣🐣🐣🐣
