Region Activity Day (RAD) @ Toohey Forest 🌲

The Joeys and Cubs had a wonderful day bush walking today. They found 5 out of the 8 bush wrecked cars. (Only due to parts of the track being closed for hazard reduction burning).

They walked a total of 10km today in around 6 hours. They all took turns leading the group by using a map that was given to us by our Region Leaders.

They also got to see lots of the local wildlife including lots of different species of birds and a cute baby BooBook Owl named β€œBilly”!

It was an amazing day out and we are super proud of each and every one of the youth members, adult helpers and awesome leaders (Dingo & Goanna) who attended today! πŸ’™

Thankyou to Bagheera, Waratah and Cassowary from our Region Team for organising and overseeing such a wonderful day out for us πŸ₯°

Today our Joeys Participated in the Joey Scout Step Out Challenge!

They were given a set of instructions and a map and had to find their way around the Gold Coast, Tapping on and off trams, walking lots and discovering all sorts of interesting things and places! 🚊

They got to explore all around the Gold Coast including GCUH, Southport and Mackintosh Island! 🏝️

Well done Joeys and well done Magpie & Galah!

Tonight our adventurous Nerang Cub Scouts had an incredible opportunity to visit our local Fire and Rescue Station, where they got a firsthand look at the amazing work our firefighters do to help keep our community safe. πŸš’πŸ”₯

The Cubs explored the station, learned about fire safety, emergency response, rescue equipment and the important role firefighters play during emergencies and natural disasters. One of the highlights of the evening was getting up close to the fire trucks, equipment and getting to hold and spray the actual fire hoses! The excitement, curiosity and endless questions from the Cubs made for such a fun and memorable experience!

A huge and heartfelt thank you to the wonderful team at our local Fire and Rescue Station for so generously giving up their time to host us. Your patience, enthusiasm and willingness to share your knowledge made the night incredibly special for our youth members. Experiences like this help inspire confidence, community spirit and respect for the everyday heroes who serve our communities.

We truly appreciate your hospitality and all that you do. πŸš’β€οΈ Thankyou Nerang Fire Station!

ANZAC Day 2026 πŸ₯€

Always a non negotiable for us as a scout group to attend the local Dawn Service, paying our respects and quietly reflecting on the importance and magnitude of this day, it’s traditions and to pass on all of that to our children and youth members - the future generations of Australia πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί.

We are so proud of our section representatives, who proudly and respectfully represented Nerang Scout Group today laying our wreath of Australian wattle, eucalyptus and natives at the ANZAC Memorial at the front of the Nerang RSL (Imogen Tuskin, Ivy-Jane Toon, Gus Henwood and Jake Gribble).

Today, on the 111th Anniversary of the Gallipoli landing, we think of the ANZAC’s, we think of their sacrifices and bravery and we appreciate and acknowledge the service, dedication and strength of all the Service/Military men and women both past AND present!

LEST WE FORGET! 🌹

Thank you to the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.

The Nerang Scout Group sincerely thanks the GCBF for their generous grant of $8,308.00.
This funding has allowed us to purchase a new group trailer, upgrade and expand our camping equipment, and ensure our communication and tracking systems are current and reliable. As a result, our youth members can safely participate in a wider range of activities, and multiple sections are now able to attend different camps and events simultaneouslyβ€”without relying on leaders’ personal equipment. These improvements have greatly strengthened our ability to deliver quality Scouting programs and support the growth, safety, and adventure of young people in our community. We are extremely grateful for the GCBF’s support and the lasting positive impact it has made on Scouting at Nerang.

🌟 Join the Adventure β€” Become a Leader at Nerang Scout Group! 🌟

Our Scout Group is growing fast β€” and that is such an exciting thing! More youth are discovering the fun, friendships, and adventure that Scouting offers... and we need a few more amazing adults to help make it all possible.

Right now, Nerang Scout Group is looking for:

1 Male Leader for Joey Scouts (5-7yrs)
2 or more Leaders for Cub Scouts (8-11) (we're growing so much we may soon need to split into two Cub units!)
1–2 Leaders for Scouts (11-15)
If you've ever thought, "Maybe I could help out..." β€” this is your moment.

πŸ• What Does a Scout Leader Do?

Being a Scout Leader isn't about having all the answers or being an expert camper.
It's about supporting, guiding, and encouraging young people as they learn through fun and adventure.

Leaders help youth experience things like:

Camping and outdoor adventures
Teamwork and leadership development
Community service and local events
Life skills, resilience, and confidence-building
Pioneering, cooking, navigation, and creative challenges
Making friendships that last a lifetime
You'll be helping youth grow into capable, caring, community-minded young people β€” and having a lot of fun along the way.

πŸŽ“ Training, Support & Costs Covered

Worried you don't have experience? Don't be.

Scouts Queensland provides excellent training, mentoring, and resources, and our Group will support you every step of the way.

βœ… Nerang Scout Group pays for your registration and training fees
βœ… You'll complete recognised leader training at your own pace
βœ… You'll work as part of a friendly team β€” never on your own
βœ… All leaders are supported through the Scouts QLD program and safety framework

Many leaders say they gain just as much as the youth do!

πŸš€ Learn New Skills & Run Adventurous Activities

One of the coolest parts of being a leader is the opportunity to build your own skills too.

Through Scouts QLD, leaders can undertake courses that allow them to run activities such as:

Canoeing and kayaking
Rock climbing and abseiling
Bushcraft and survival skills
Hiking and remote camping
And other adventurous activities
It's a chance to try things you may never have done before β€” alongside a supportive team.

πŸ™Œ Not Ready to Be a Leader? Other Roles Available!

We understand not everyone can commit to a weekly leadership role β€” but there are still plenty of ways to help.

We also have opportunities for parents to assist in support roles such as:

Group Secretary
Group Chairperson
Fundraising Committee Members
Event helpers and activity support (Adult members)
Every bit of help strengthens what we can offer our youth.

πŸ’š Why We Need You

Scouting is run by volunteers β€” parents and community members who step forward to make sure our kids can keep having amazing opportunities.

With just a few more adults joining the team, we can:

Keep up with our growing numbers
Offer even more adventures
Ensure every youth gets the attention and support they deserve
Continue building a thriving Scout Group in Nerang

If you'd like to learn more β€” even just to ask a few questions β€” please reach out.

Becoming a Scout Leader could be one of the most rewarding things you ever do... and we'd love to welcome you to the team.

Warm regards,
