We are pleased to once again partner with the EIANZ NSW Division to host another Hunter Enviro Drinks event.

This event follows the Circular Economy Grand Challenge Expert Panel, presented by the University of Newcastle's Integrated Innovation Network (I2N). 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭?
60 years ago, ordinary Australians stood up against a proposal to mine Ellison Reef, leading to the creation of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and AMCS. Now, a new generation of reef stewards has returned to repeat the original Reef survey. This film captures that journey and invites Australians to reconnect with the conservation origins of AMCS.

A heartfelt thank you our amazing volunteers and to all who joined our recent forum on coastal and marine life resilience in Port Stephens. With 100 community members in attendance, we explored vital topics like coastal erosion, oyster reef restoration, and the impacts of freshwater on our estuary and marine wildlife. Special thanks to our speakers for their insights and to Bob Creese for guiding the discussions. Let's continue working together to protect and celebrate our marine environment! 🌊🌿

Great news that Council intends to protect the buffer west of the library, but DISTURBING that Council says they appreciate the importance of buffer zones, and yet is proceeding with selling that to the north of Salamander Bay Shopping Centre.

Join us at this week's Council meeting 25th August at 5.30pm. Raymond Terrace Council Chambers.
Latest news: at this week's Council meeting PSC only intends to protect the area of buffer zone next to Tomaree Library.
There are several problems with this approach:
🐸 Council is saying that 1 buffer zone is more important than another. Does Council have the studies that will prove that the hatched area next to the purple zone, see map, is less worthy than the buffer zone they are protecting next to the library?
🐸 Expressions of Interest EOI, have already been sought for this area, (purple on map plus green hatched area to the west). Is any potential buyer aware that this will be an area of contention at the DA stage & that a Senior Council Officer in a public meeting has already said that no one in their right mind would build on that buffer area.

Thank you to our president, Iain Watt, for comprehensively showing the economic importance of our natural assets, and the need to adopt environmental primacy in protecting our environment from needless development of sensitive areas.

What price our natural environment?
Our natural assets, wetlands, koalas, and dolphins are not just amenities — they're productive assets and like any other assets, need protecting. Property values, tourism, fisheries, the retirement sector, and Council's own revenue all depend on them. Eco-accreditation while an important move forward only works if it's backed by genuine environmental primacy — the environment placed ahead of development — otherwise it's just complex marketing or greenwashing.
