Major community support to rescind the Salamander Bay Place Plan ~ we need to look elsewhere for housing and medical facilities -- too much of our critical wetlands buffer, over 65%, is already lost to building before buffers were protected under more recent planning laws.
Now Council plans to build on about 70% of this tiny remnant that still remains.
A critical part of the land to be cleared is a koala corridor, Melaleuca paperbark are koala habitat and koalas also feed on these trees -- these will be cleared from the critical buffer zone.
ONCE GONE, IT IS GONE FOREVER! we can't build wetland buffers elsewhere, but we can build housing and medical facilities elsewhere.

Well done South Tomaree Community Association Inc. for taking such comprehensive action.

Community Action – Real Outcomes
Concerns about construction impacts at 113–121 Gan Gan Rd (development opposite the shopping centre) were raised by residents at last week’s STCA meeting.
Within days, STCA engaged directly with the Council, certifier developer and builder - resulting in a face-to-face meeting and a commitment to ongoing community communication.
The developer (Kado) and builder (Mars) have now committed to regular communication with impacted residents, minimising construction impacts moving forward.

✅ Thank you to residents who raised concerns
✅ Thank you to all parties for engaging constructively

Pressure is mounting to save Mambo Wetlands buffer from residential and commercial development. With just a morning's notice, there was a quick community response in support of the wetlands.
We should not sacrifice environmentally valuable and connected land for development when feasible alternatives DO exist.
Mambo-Wanda Wetlands Conservation Group, supported by EcoNetwork, other environmental groups, and a rapidly growing community are urging Council to halt development plans to protect the wetlands buffer, a recognised fauna and koala corridor of regrowing endangered swamp forest community.

Thank you Murray Wood , Margaret Lamond, Driftwood Corlette and your concerned grandchildren for great interviews — and Risa Utama from Newcastle Nbn News Room for providing such an interesting story.
