Casino Night was a gamble worth taking 🎲

Last Friday, The Purely Socials crew swapped the usual Friday night plans for roulette, poker faces & some very questionable betting strategies at The Niche.

There were cautious players, big risk-takers, plenty of “surely this one will win” moments & an impressive amount of chips disappearing by the end of the night!

We even crowned our best gambler & runner-up - both from the same husband & wife duo. Talk about a high-stakes relationship!

Luckily, the only thing we were gambling with was fake money, so everyone could enjoy the thrill without the risk. Good food, plenty of laughs & some serious competition made for a pretty great night 🎰

Here’s a little look at what everyone got up to & check out all the photos here: https://loom.ly/2V4j00Y

Help us make Dwelly 100 our biggest year yet! 💚

We’re incredibly excited to be the official charity partner of the C-Wise Dwellingup 100 this year & we want to make it our biggest one yet.

And we need your help to get there.

There are a few ways you can be part of Team Neuromuscular WA on Saturday September 12,
🚵 Ride the Dwellingup 100
🏃 Run the Mighty Jarrah Trail Run
🐕 Bring your best mate to the Doggie Dash Trail Run
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Bring the family & make a day of it
💚 Donate to one of our riders or runners who are already fundraising

You don’t have to be an experienced athlete & you don’t have to take on the biggest challenge. This event is about getting outside, having a good time & being part of an incredible community.

We promise it’s a lot of fun & there’s something pretty special about seeing our community come together on the trails.

Every dollar raised for Neuromuscular WA helps us provide Support for Life to people living with neuromuscular conditions & their families across WA. So, whether you’re ready to get your running shoes on, jump on your bike, bring the dog or simply get behind someone who is taking on the challenge – we’d love to have you with us.

Join Team Neuromuscular WA or donate to our team: https://loom.ly/suF5GiQ

Help us make Dwelly 2026 our biggest year yet 💚

What does an Empower Grant make possible?

Sometimes it’s a family holiday.
Sometimes it’s getting back on the bike.
Sometimes it’s being able to enjoy a hobby, study more comfortably, travel to see someone you love, or simply make your home work better for you.

Our most recent round of Empower Grants has helped our members do exactly that, with $28,071 awarded across 15 grants.

From supporting travel and accessible experiences to funding equipment, hobbies, study & home-based wellbeing, every grant was connected to something that matters to the person receiving it.

✨ Joining the family on a holiday to Brisbane
🏉 A trip to the AFL Grand Final
🚲 An electric-assist bike to keep riding with family
🏍️ Motorcycle modifications for more comfortable riding
🏊 Restoring a home hydrotherapy pool & installing a pool heater
🎮 Gaming equipment to stay connected with a gaming club
📚 A home study setup to support schoolwork & fatigue management
✈️ Travel to the Global Myositis Patient Conference in the USA
❤️ Travel to farewell a loved one
…and so much more.

Empower Grants are about investing in our members’ goals, interests, independence, connections & quality of life.

Because living with a neuromuscular condition shouldn’t mean putting the things that matter to you on hold.

We’re proud to be able to provide this support as part of our Support for Life.

Tonight, we are thrilled to celebrate Professor Gina Ravenscroft on her appointment as the inaugural Dr Patricia Kailis Chair in Rare Diseases at The University of Western Australia 💙

Gina has been a valued friend & incredible supporter of the Neuromuscular WA community for many years. As an internationally recognised leader in rare neuromuscular disease research, her work has helped provide answers, diagnoses & hope to countless families living with rare conditions.

Through her research at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research & UWA, Gina & her team continue to uncover the genetic causes of rare diseases, helping families better understand their conditions & paving the way for future treatments.

This prestigious appointment is a wonderful recognition of Gina’s dedication, expertise & lifelong commitment to the rare disease community. It is also a fitting tribute to the legacy of Dr Patricia Kailis, a pioneering figure in genetic research who helped shape the future of neuromuscular care in WA.

We are incredibly proud to see Gina take on this role & look forward to seeing the continued impact of her work for families across WA & around the world.

Congratulations, Gina! 💙

Denim is the dress code today 👖💙

The Neuromuscular WA team has traded in the office outfits for our favourite pair of jeans to celebrate Jeans for Genes Day!

But this isn’t just about wearing denim, it’s about showing support for the thousands of Australians living with genetic conditions, including many neuromuscular conditions.

From Duchenne muscular dystrophy to spinal muscular atrophy & beyond, these conditions can affect how people move, communicate and live their daily lives.

We’re proud to wear our jeans, raise awareness & continue supporting our community every moment of the way 👖

A week of opportunity, inclusion & discovering what’s possible ⛏️🪨

When Charlie arrived at Rio Tinto Iron Ore for a week of work experience, he was excited to learn more about an industry he had always been fascinated by.

Living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), Charlie knows that creating opportunities where everyone can participate is incredibly important. Throughout his week with Rio Tinto, teams across the business worked together to ensure Charlie could experience a broad range of what the industry has to offer.

From exploring Rio Tinto’s Pilbara operations in Karratha to spending time with the Geoscience team, Charlie gained valuable insight into the world of mining and discovered a growing passion for geology.

“(It) ignited my passion for geology & strengthened my interest in pursuing it further,” Charlie shared.

But the highlight of the week wasn’t just the technology, operations or scale of the industry. It was the people.

“What stood out to me most was the people. Everyone I met genuinely loves their job & the way they spoke about their roles was inspiring.”

A huge thank you to Rio Tinto for creating an inclusive & supportive environment where Charlie could learn, connect & feel like part of the team.

Stories like Charlie’s remind us that when organisations focus on accessibility & inclusion, they don’t just open doors, they help young people see what their future could look like 💙

We can’t wait to see where Charlie’s passion for geology takes him next!

Last week, 14 teams packed into The Hall at The Camfield for our second ever Who Gives A Quiz? Trivia Night & what a fun night it was 🤯

There were plenty of laughs, some very questionable answers & a few heated debates (especially around which Australian state is closest to New Zealand 👀).

Teams battled it out across a mix of trivia rounds, including our Neuromuscular WA wipeout questions, where everyone got to learn more about neuromuscular conditions & the work we do to support our community.

A big congratulations to all our winners & a huge thank you to everyone who came along, joined a team, bought raffle tickets & helped make the night such a success!

We’re so grateful to The Camfield for donating The Hall & to Just In Time Gourmet, The Fun Lab, Little Soul at FOMO Fremantle & The Camfield for helping make the night extra special with some awesome prizes.

Thanks for coming along, having fun & being part of our community. Check out all the great photos, thanks to A Design Creativ here https://loom.ly/F9MAOgk

We’ll see you soon for more quiz fun at the North Perth Bowls Club Charity Month!
