Now's your chance to find out! Join us for a 90-minute behind-the-curtain tour, where we'll check out the change rooms, explore the memorabilia & see the state-of-the-art facilities from a whole new perspective.

Once we've had our stadium fix, we'll head up to the Skyview Cafe for a delicious lunch & a good catch up. It's the perfect chance to reconnect with old friends, meet some new ones & soak up those incredible views 💜

To the carers in our community, this one's for you 💜

This National Carers Week, we want to take a moment to say thank you. Thank you for the early mornings & the late nights. For the appointments, the phone calls & the paperwork. For the lifting, the laughing, the worrying & the celebrating. For showing up, again & again, often without anyone noticing.

In our community, carers come in all shapes & sizes. Family, friends, neighbours, partners, grandparents & young people who show up every day for someone living with a neuromuscular condition. What you do matters more than words can say, & you do it with more strength & heart than you probably give yourself credit for.

These are just a few of the incredible carers in our community. We see you, we appreciate you & we're so proud to walk alongside you 🌟

Today is World Mental Health Day 💜

Living with a neuromuscular condition, or caring for someone who is, can affect so much more than physical health. The appointments, the changes, the unknowns & the everyday juggle can all take a toll & it's completely okay to not be okay sometimes.

Here at Neuromuscular WA, one of our core values is simple: We're here for YOU. We believe support goes beyond medicine, which is why we offer counselling for our members & their families, along with a whole community of people who truly understand what you're going through 🌟

COMMUNITY: Community Day is back & we can’t wait to bring everyone together again!

This year we’re doing things a little differently, swapping the morning for a summer afternoon so we can enjoy the best part of the day (hello, Perth sunsets 🌅) & moving to a BRAND NEW location at Sir James Mitchell Park (South Perth).

We’ve got a fun afternoon planned with all the favourites you loved last year, including face painting & magic, plus some exciting new surprises we can’t wait to share… including a few furry & cuddly visitors joining the fun!

There’ll be delicious food, music, activities for all ages and plenty of time to relax, catch up with familiar faces, meet new people & celebrate another amazing year with our Neuromuscular WA community 🌟

COMMUNITY: Guess who's BACK?! ⛴️🌟

Our Support Stars are setting sail for Wadjemup (Rottnest Island) again & round two is going to be even bigger & better!

Does your child have a sibling or parent living with an NMC? Then they're one of our Support Stars. Grab the sunnies, slap on the sunscreen & get ready for a day of island exploring, epic views, new mates & (fingers crossed) plenty of quokka selfies! 📸

For the kids in our families who often take a back seat, whether it's their sibling or their parent living with an NMC, this day is ALL about them 🌟 No appointments, no waiting rooms, just sunshine, sea breezes & a whole lot of fun.

Meet Tenzin & his new powered wheelchair! 🌟

When Tenzin received an Empower Grant towards a powered wheelchair, our amazing community rallied together to make it happen. Our team kindly introduced Tenzin & his family to Spectrum Therapy WA, who jumped straight on board & helped us track down a near-new Quantum Edge power wheelchair, donated by a very generous supporter.

There was just one little hiccup: the chair was a bit too big for Tenzin & the seating wasn't quite right for his needs. No problem! Spectrum Therapy WA did a full seating assessment pro bono & teamed up with Darren from Aidacare CMS to fine-tune every detail. Big shoutout to Darren for going above & beyond, his expertise & care made all the difference!

With the Empower Grant, the kindness of the Storey family & Spectrum Therapy WA covering the rest of the seating costs, Tenzin now has a wheelchair that's made just for him, today & for years to come. That means more freedom to get stuck in at school & out & about with his family & friends 💜

We're so grateful to everyone who helped make this happen. This is what Support for Life is all about 🌟

Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day 💚

Today is Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD) Awareness Day – a global day to raise awareness of the different types of LGMD & the people & families living with them.

There are more than 30 known genetic types of LGMD, which can affect people at different stages of life & in different ways. For some, signs may appear in childhood, while for others, diagnosis may come much later.

Greater awareness means greater understanding – from recognising the signs & improving access to information to ensuring people living with LGMD have the support they need throughout their lives.

Today, we’d like you to meet Josh.

Josh, lives with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy & is part of our Neuromuscular WA community. He lives with his partner Candice & their two young boys, Charlie & Henry.

In this video, Josh shares a little about his journey – from the unexpected moment that led to his diagnosis to the impact it has had on different parts of his life.

He also talks openly about the support he received from Neuromuscular WA, including counselling that helped him work through some of the challenges that came with his diagnosis. Josh’s story is a reminder that living with LGMD is about much more than the condition itself. It can shape relationships, family life, work & the way we think about the future.

So today, take a few minutes to hear from Josh & get to know a little more about his experience of living with LGMD.

Together, we can help make LGMD more visible, better understood & ensure our community knows they’re not alone 💚

An adventure worth remembering 🏑

Earlier this year, the Topham family set off on an incredible European adventure, with a very special reason to make the trip to Finland.

Thanks to an Empower Grant from us, Scott was able to travel with his family & proudly represent Australia as a member of the Australian Slider Powerchair Hockey Team at the Powerchair Hockey World Cup 🇦🇺

For a family travelling with three wheelchairs, accessible travel can come with significant additional costs. The Empower Grant helped ease some of that financial pressure, contributing towards accessible accommodation, Eurail passes & experiences that allowed the whole family to make the most of their time away.

And they certainly made the most of it!

From Finland, their journey continued through London, Paris, Milan, Naples & Rome, with plenty of unforgettable moments along the way – including the Mamma Mia! Party in London 💃

For Scott, competing on the world stage was a particularly special moment after years of training & dedication to powerchair hockey.

“Receiving the grant meant an incredible amount to me & my family. It was a huge honour & a very meaningful moment in my sporting journey.”

The Empower Grant program is about helping our community pursue the things that matter to them – whether that's achieving a personal goal, taking part in an opportunity, exploring a passion or simply creating memories with the people they love!

We’re so proud to have played a small part in helping the Topham family make this adventure happen ✈️

COMMUNITY: A new university opportunity for people with intellectual disability 🎓

We wanted to share an opportunity from Curtin University.

Curtin is offering a new Undergraduate Certificate in University Studies for people with intellectual disability who are 18 or turning 18 in 2027.

The two-year course gives students the opportunity to study four university subjects:
🎨 Art Studio – paint, draw, sculpt & share your ideas
🔧 Engineering Studio – design, build & test things
🌱 Sustainability – learn about caring for the earth
🌏 Health & Indigenous Cultures – explore Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander cultures & health

The course is free & students will attend Curtin University 1–2 days per week.
