ILCA UK Nationals

Jasper Stay recently had the incredible opportunity to travel overseas and compete at the ILCA UK Nationals in Weymouth, followed by the Youth World Championships in Aarhus, Denmark.

He went into both regattas with ambitious goals and a strong belief in what he could achieve. Competing at the highest level proved more challenging than expected, but the experience has only strengthened his determination to improve, learn and come back stronger.

2026 Pacer Racer Challenge

As the 2025 challenge had to be cancelled because of poor weather, many of WA’s best and high-performance sailors were eager to hit the water and compete for ‘bragging rights in the 2026 Pacer Racer Challenge.

This year’s challenge brought out the best as the 22 teams battled the conditions and each other to complete the 5-race program. With the last “medal race” was a double-points scoring race.

RTYF would like to thank the team that helped make the day a success, particularly the WAIS team of Matt Jerwood and Tristian Brown, and the RFBYC dinghy team and bosun Alex Bootsma. The Foundation is committed to supporting this event each year as it builds connections within the WA sailing community across clubs, classes and ages. It provides an opportunity for younger sailors the learn from some of WA’s best.

ILCA 6 Youth World Championships 2027 – Aarhus, Denmark

Thomas Cooper recently competed at the ILCA 6 Youth World Championships in Aarhus, Denmark, with 307 sailors in the Youth Men’s fleet. This was his first ILCA 6 Worlds after moving up from the ILCA 4 at the start of this year.

Speaking about the event, Thomas said:

Aarhus delivered a mix of conditions throughout the week, which made for challenging racing and put a lot of emphasis on adapting quickly. I had some good races during qualifying, including a 10th, but also left too many points on the course. I finished qualifying on 101 points after my discard, just two points short of making Gold Fleet."
