Most Australians who don’t
own their home outright
are getting squeezed.

During COVID the
money printer went brr.

Then came the fastest
rate-hike cycle in Australian history.

Cash rate from 0.10% to 4.35%.
Official inflation peaked near 8% (higher in reality).

Borders reopened.
Net overseas migration hit a
record half a million in a single year.

Housing supply never kept up.
Rents still climb 7–8% a year.
Vacancy rates stuck near historic lows.

More than a million
mortgage-holders are
in serious stress.

If you rent or borrowed to buy,
your home is no longer a quiet background.

It’s a pressure cooker
draining life-force energy.

And here’s the part
almost nobody talks about:

Even the homes people do have
are empty most of the day.

Work. School. Commute.
After-school sport. The second job.

The most expensive part of life
sits there dormant most of the day
like a storage unit with a kitchen.

Along the long arc of human existence,
that is not normal.

For most of our history
the home was the centre of life.

📍 Firefly Lodge OPEN - GG #10 Postponed

We’ve been heads-down for a month getting this near-100-year-old building watertight and trading.

Full re-roof, gas, plumbing, electrical, fire safety, painting… and a new bore on the way. Four weekends of trade under our belts so far, powered by an incredible local crew and some beautiful ethical suppliers.

All that focus means Grounded Gathering 2026 is postponed.
We’re pencilling it in for September 2027 at High Valley Dawn instead.

Every bit of energy is going into helping the Firefly Lodge site realise its full potential as a community hub again.
