Congratulations, Tom!

The members of the Narrogin RSL extend their warmest congratulations to Tom Beynon on his incredible achievement at the CAPO Nationals. Breaking a world record with a 100kg deadlift at 86 years old is nothing short of extraordinary.

Your determination, strength, and spirit are an inspiration to our entire community. Narrogin RSL is proud to call you one of our own, and your accomplishment shows that age is no barrier to achieving greatness.

Well done, Tom — you’ve lifted more than just weight; you’ve lifted the pride of the whole town.

We will remember

Vietnam Veterans' Day honours the service and sacrifice of all Australians who served in the Vietnam War.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, one of the most significant engagements of the conflict.

On 18 August 1966, 108 soldiers of D Company, 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, faced an overwhelming enemy force in a rubber plantation east of Nui Dat. For three and a half hours, through torrential monsoon rain and against odds of at least ten to one, these soldiers held their ground. Eighteen Australians made the ultimate sacrifice that day, with a further 25 wounded.

Approximately 60,000 Australians served in the Vietnam War. Of these, 3,000 were wounded and 521 made the ultimate sacrifice.

We remember those who fought at Long Tan and throughout every operation of the war.

We acknowledge the families who have carried the weight of loss and service across six decades, and we recognise those veterans who continue to bear the physical and psychological impact of their service.

The courage, discipline and endurance displayed at Long Tan and throughout the Vietnam War remains part of our nation's legacy. Their service is not forgotten.

For the first time in seven years, the re-formed Narrogin RSL sub-branch led the Anzac Day service on Saturday, with the largest turnout in decades and representing all areas of service.
