A fabulous couple of days enjoying the company of Steven Miller - an excellent arts talk last night ‘Dogs in Australian Art’ - and lots of fun to be had before he heads off to ArtsNational in Tamworth and then Armidale. If you’re in these towns look them up at https://www.artsnational.au/

We were delighted to welcome Steven Miller and Liz Campbell into the studio with Marg today!

Steven joined us on air to chat about Dogs in Australian Art, a fascinating exploration of the special role dogs have played in Australian art and culture throughout history.

From Indigenous depictions of dingoes to beloved canine companions featured in artworks across the centuries, Steven shared some wonderful insights into Australia’s enduring connection with our four legged friends.

A big thank you to Steven for joining us and giving our listeners a glimpse into what promises to be a fascinating presentation tonight for ArtsNational Narrabri.

Australians love their dogs - with nearly 3.5 million dogs registered, we are said to have one of the highest rates of dog ownership in the world. Nicholas Chevalier is a key figure in the history of Sydney’s collection of watercolours on two accounts: as official art adviser to the Art Gallery of NSW during the earliest years of the institution’s history, and as a highly proficient painter of landscape watercolours himself.
The Russian born artist arrived in Melbourne in 1854. Chevalier’s painting ‘Race to the Market, Tahiti’ featuring his pet dog Tuppenny remains one of his most popular paintings.
