Inherited Cancers Australia is the first and only national charity dedicated to supporting families at risk of inherited cancers.

Our mission is to empower all Australians to understand and manage their inherited cancer risk by educating them about their health history, providing evid

ence-based resources, and connecting them to a supportive community. The Australian Registered Charity “Pink Hope Community Limited” has changed its name to “Inherited Cancers Australia Limited”. The mission, activities and values of Inherited Cancers Australia have evolved to include all families with hereditary cancer risk, and you will see that our social media pages and other promotional and informational materials going forward are re-branded as “Inherited Cancers Australia.”

We also request that you refer to our organisation and activities going forward using the terms “Inherited Cancers Australia” (rather than “Pink Hope”), send all email communications to us at our new email address [email protected] and no longer direct any communications or enquiries relating to us to the url: www.pinkhope.org.au . Our new website for such enquiries and communications is www.inheritedcancers.org.au. Inherited Cancers Australia confirms that it has no ongoing affiliation with any persons or organisations who own a trademark to the terms “Pink Hope” or who may in the future use the terms ‘Pink Hope” as a trademark to conduct or promote charitable or other activities.

We were so excited to see so many cancer nurses join Robyn and Gabby for their symposium at the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia Annual Congress !

The half-day workshop brought together clinical expertise, lived experience and community insights.

A big thank you to everyone involved for sharing their insights and experiences 💙

More than 70 cancer nurses joined the half-day symposium on identifying and supporting patients with inherited cancer risk.

Robyn and Gabby shared practical education, clinical insight and what we have learnt from our community through ICA’s services, programs and events.

Connecting with nurses from across Australia to share ICA resources and discuss ways to strengthen support for people and families affected by inherited cancer risk.

Every conversation with our community helps build a better understanding of inherited cancer risk.

Some good news for our ACT community 💙

The ACT Government has announced $3.9 million to provide better access to specialised screening, treatment and support services at North Canberra Hospital for people at higher risk of breast cancer.

For people living with inherited cancer risk, access to recommended screening should not depend on where you live, what you can afford, or how hard you can navigate the system.

This investment is an important step towards reducing barriers and supporting long-term access to the annual screening recommended for people at higher risk of breast cancer.

ICA began advocating for this service in early 2022, and we are so pleased to see the ACT Labor Government deliver on this election commitment.

This service will help more people access specialised screening, support and care closer to home, supporting risk management and earlier detection.

Our hearts are full looking at these photos from Mother’s Day Classic 💙

A special thank you to Dot and Angela, who chose to run topless and bring visibility to the realities of life after mastectomy and going flat.

For many people, the impact of inherited cancer risk, breast cancer, mastectomy and going flat is not always visible. On the day, Dot and Angela made that impossible to ignore.

Their run also felt connected to Robyn’s City2Surf run last year, and to the many people in our community who keep finding ways to make these experiences seen.

Thank you to everyone who ran, walked, donated to the MDC cause through our ICA team page, wore the ICA message, shared photos, started conversations, or helped carry this message further, including Kelly, Mary, Michelle, Charlie and their beautiful families.

Every time this question is seen, there is a chance for another conversation to begin.

From years of supporting this community, we know how important that first point of contact can be.

Through our support hotline, Peer Support Program and Inherited Cancer Support Service, ICA’s support is built around personalised, one-to-one connection.

Support like this should be easier to find from the start.

$50 funds a first support call, so someone has a place to start and knows what support is available.

$100 matches someone with a trained peer support mentor who can share understanding and lived experience.

$250 funds a one-to-one appointment with ICA’s genetic counsellor, helping someone understand their options and next steps.

Behind ICA’s work is a Board made up of people who bring lived experience, professional expertise and a deep commitment to the community we support 💙

We’re proud to welcome Belinda Wood and Simone Busija to the ICA Board, and Jessica Braude as Company Secretary.

Belinda brings extensive experience across healthcare, policy and government engagement, strengthening ICA’s advocacy for better access, prevention, support and equity.

Simone brings lived insight into CDH1-related inherited cancer risk, advocacy in family conversations, and professional leadership across communications, stakeholder engagement, philanthropy and project management.

Jess has been part of the ICA community for many years as a community member, advocate and ambassador, bringing lived insight, generosity and her professional experience as a social worker.

We’re also pleased to share that John Sheehy has been appointed Board Chair, building on his long-standing contribution to ICA as a Board Director since 2018. John takes on this responsibility with care, purpose and a strong commitment to the people and families ICA supports.

We are deeply grateful to Deborah Homewood for her leadership as Chair, helping guide ICA through important milestones and periods of change. Deb continues her valued contribution as a Board Director, alongside Lidia Valenzuela and Warren Brandt, who remain closely involved in guiding ICA’s work.

Their leadership helps ensure ICA’s work continues to be guided by trust, lived experience, evidence-based support and advocacy that leads to real change.

Sharing with care has always been at the heart of Community Catch Up.

Over the years, we have seen how our community looks after one another at these catch ups, in the stories people share, the way they listen, and the boundaries they respect.

So we created a What to Expect Guide, shaped by what we have learnt from the people who have been part of these gatherings.

It shares what these catch ups are usually like, and how we can care for ourselves and one another before, during, and after the event. It may be especially helpful if you would like to know a little more before coming along.

This World Ovarian Cancer Day, we are honouring the visible and invisible scars in our community, and the knowledge, care, courage and advocacy they can represent.

For people impacted by inherited ovarian cancer risk, these scars can be surgical, emotional or symbolic. They are not always visible, but they are often deeply felt.

They may represent loss, grief and pain. They can also reflect knowledge passed through families, the choices people make to reduce risk, and the care carried for the next person, and the next generation, to know their risk and know their normal.

Today, we are recognising, supporting and standing with our community who carry these often-invisible experiences.

If you would like to help amplify this message, you are welcome to share this post or your own story if you feel comfortable. Your story may help someone else know their family history, understand their inherited risk, recognise symptoms earlier, seek support, or feel less alone. 🩵
