What a wonderful clip to share. This so real and so brave.

And I can relate to both sides, the incredible frustration when someone just has to choose , just make a simple choice to honour what they have always said they would do…choose love and care for the people that mean most, yet I also know how how it feels to sit in that cage his beautiful mum so touchingly shares with the cry “I want to get better”. It can be so hard to do what you desperately want to do, should be able to do, shamed that you can’t do , because the pain, the psychache, feels too much to keep going.

This conversation is the way both sides can heal, if you know these feelings, I know that there is someone out there who wants to share with you in a chat like this.

In a moment of remembering, or in reflection, a thought, a moment of heartache, would you be ok to reach out to this website, which is such a beautiful response to something unthinkably sad, and just write some words of connection, encouragement, compassion. And would you please do this, as if someone's life depended on it!

The key point in this article is that Su***de and indeed most forms of mental distress originate or are triggered by the overload that happens in the hits and shots of life. It is not a mental illness to be overwhelmed and hurting and in severe emotional distress when something bad happens to you. In fact that is likely a perfectly normal response to an abnormal amount of hurt.

What we need to know is that the kryptonite for distress starts with a close and deep connection. Someone who listens and cares and has a few options up their sleave to help you find what you need.

That can make a huge difference to how long and hard the path from there ends up being. Like being caught in a rip its not a time to panic, it is time to put your arm up and wave at a close surfer or lifesaver. I know you can do that!

Check out the article.

It can feel like a pointless interference sometimes but when we see it through a bereaved persons eyes it is just about being sensitive to their feelings. Check out some thoughts around common language changes you can make when talking about su***de.

Talking about su***de can be difficult.

However, learning how to talk about it in a safe and hopeful way has the power of potentially saving lives and avoiding reinforcing stigma that can prevent people from seeking the support they need.

Refrain from using the term ‘committed’. 'Commit' implies su***de is a sin or crime, reinforcing the stigma that it’s a selfish act and personal choice. Su***de has not been a crime in England since 1961.

Instead, let's use phrases such as 'died by su***de' or 'experienced suicidal thoughts'.
Let's keep talking about su***de safely and sensitively, and keep saving young lives. 💜

Saturday was compassionate communities day and we think it is really important to mention this because as a community there is something most of us do not do well and it is important to do better!

I am talking about talking about death!

So much is gained by being open and understanding and candid around the process and problems of someone moving on. Have you sorted the paperwork, do your loved ones know what to do, does anyone have your passwords to turn off stuff, and so on????

Many things big and small can be made easier for your family during a time that is tough enough.

Please reach out if you feel ready to have a conversation!
