VIEW Club birthdays are always a lot of fun and a great chance to catch up with members from other VIEW Clubs in our region. On Tuesday we celebrated Nambucca River VIEW Clubs 51st and were delighted to welcome guests from several other clubs to share the day with us. Zone Councillor, Maisie was able to join us and it was also great to see a past president and long time committee member of ours, Marion who travelled from Inverell to be with us.

The theme for the day was "Posh, Black and White" and all our ladies certainly showed up in their finery and looking very posh! A fun quiz to find out whether we were "Royally posh or Proudly common" proved to be somewhat revealing. Seems some of us are a little more posh than others!
One of our newer members, Mary, received her membership badge from Zone Councillor, Maisie on the day. It is always special when a new member receives their badge.

Thanks are due to the committee and all the members who contributed to the success of the day. From cake baking, to donations of raffle prizes and a very successful trading table . Thank you to Elizabeth's husband for the adorable dragon table decorations which added beautifully to the black and white theme.

Lastly and by no means least, a big thank you to Nambucca Heads RSL Club, the chef and waitstaff for providing a lovely meal, and great service, plus the very attractive table settings.
Again, a very enjoyable day at Nambucca River VIEW Club.

At our lunch meeting this past Tuesday, in recognition of Naidoc Week, our guest speaker was David Frederick from the Durri Corporation Aboriginal Medical Service. A very interesting and engaging speaker, David told us about his work with the service, which includes working with numbers of youth, some of whom experience problems with drug and alcohol usage.
Taking time to earn trust, taking groups "on country" learning traditional skills such as spear and boomerang creation etc. as well as good old fashioned fishing and sharing a meal of fish and damper over a camp fire are a valued part of this process. The aim is to re-establish a sense of identity and belonging to kids who may feel disenfranchised and lacking guidance. He spoke of how this among other things was a great way of breaking down barriers and encouraging these youngsters to take pride in themselves and gain confidence in engaging with the programs.
It was obvious, speaking with David, that it is more than just a job to him, and his heart is well and truly in the work he does.
We thank him for taking the time to speak to us. David was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation by President Elizabeth Newman and Program Officer, Dina Wallbank.

We VIEW ladies are girls who 'wanna' have fun. And a bit of rain did not dampen the spirits of our motley crew who on Tuesday cast off on a cruise of Port Macquarie's river and canals with the hope of maybe even spotting a dolphin or two.

A group from our own club were joined by some of our compatriots from Nambucca/Macksville Evening VIEW, plus some brave husbands who were not fazed by being outnumbered. We were treated to a lovely morning tea and were kept entertained by the humorous tour leader. When not having us laughing, he kept lively music going which induced several of our crew up onto their feet and ripping up the dance floor.

Though no dolphins decided to grace us with their presence on the day, no-one seemed too disappointed.
I think it's fair to say, us girls did have fun!

At our June lunch meeting Rachel Burns was our special guest speaker. Rachel gave an interesting and informative talk covering the Headland Museum and the books they have there including her wonderful publication 'Nambucca Stories' - bringing our history to life. Rachel is pictured receiving her Certificate of Appreciation from President Elizabeth Newman.

It is always cause for celebration to welcome newer members to our club. On Tuesday, Elizabeth presented member's badges to Karina Crosland and Judi Crowe. So happy to have you aboard ladies and may you have many happy years as members of VIEW. (To top off her day, Karina also won 2nd prize in our Mothers' Day raffle. That's how you do it, Karina!)

A big thank you to John Kemp for being our speaker at our Tuesday lunch this week, paying tribute to Anzac Day. John is a Vietnam veteran who joined the army when only 16 years old! John imparted a great deal of interesting information about the creation of the Returned Soldier's League which was formed back in 1916. Our own Nambucca RSL Sub-branch where we hold our lunch meetings, was founded in 1946 which makes this club 80 years old this year, and still going strong. We whole-heartedly appreciate the service of John and all our wonderful veterans.
