It’s time again, for Get Ready Weekend this 19th and
20th of September, 2026. Now is the time to start thinking about how you and your family will prepare for the upcoming bush fire season. Join your local RFS volunteers at one of the events happening across the district on 19 and 20 September and learn how to create a bush fire survival plan, prepare your property, and stay informed during emergencies.

If your caravan is your permanent home rather than a holiday destination, it is even more important to plan and prepare for the bushfire season.

Take extra care with campfires. If campfires are allowed and conditions are safe, keep them small, contained, and clear of leaves, grass and flammable materials. Never leave a campfire unattended and always keep a constant supply of water close. When putting out a campfire, use water—not sand or dirt. Stir the ashes and add water until everything is cool to touch.

Ensure you have adequate water supplies available to you during the bush fire season, to extinguish fires and help you protect your home should an emergency occur.

During a bush fire, power outages and communications disruptions can affect how you receive emergency information. Don’t rely on just one source.

Stay informed by:
• Downloading the Hazards Near Me app.
• Listening to local radio, including ABC Radio.
• Checking the NSW RFS website.
• Calling the Bush Fire Information Line on 1800 NSW RFS (1800 679 737).

Having more than one way to receive updates can help you stay safe when conditions change.

In an emergency, every second counts.

Make sure your property entrance is clearly signed, easy to identify from the road, and fitted with visible property numbers at the main gate or fence line.

This is especially important in rural and semi-rural areas where properties can be difficult to locate at night, in smoke, or during fast moving bush fires.

Clear property identification helps firefighters reach you faster when it matters most.

Take a few minutes to check your signage and ensure your property can be easily identified in an emergency. It could save valuable time when help is on the way.

🔥 AIDER Program 🔥

Did you know the NSW RFS offers a free service to help reduce bush fire risk around eligible homes?

The AIDER program supports infirm, disabled and elderly residents living in bush fire prone areas by assisting with property preparation.

✅ Services may include:
• Clearing leaves, sticks and fallen branches
• Trimming vegetation around the home
• Slashing or mowing long grass
• Cleaning gutters

📋 It’s a one-off service delivered by NSW RFS crews to help make properties safer and support bush fire survival planning.
