Microcephaly (MIC) is a condition in which a person’s head is significantly smaller than normal for their age and s*x, based on standardized charts. Specifically, the head circumference is less than 3 standard deviations (SD) below the age- and s*x-related mean. Sometimes detected at birth, microcephaly usually is the result of the brain developing abnormally in the womb or not growing as it shoul

d after birth. Microcephaly may be seen with other cortical malformations; including lissencephaly, polymicrogyria, and periventricular nodular heterotopia. When microcephaly is present with lissencephaly, is is called microlissencephaly (MLIS)
Microcephalies are classified based upon inheritance, associated clinical features, and causative gene. Mirocephaly may be congenital (present at birth) or it may develop in the first few years of life. This page is to let people know that even if our brains are smaller, we still have a mind, dream and goals in our lives that we would like to do. This group is open for parents, carers or for people who have microcephaly or any other disability to help each other gain knowledge and offer support. Plus to help provide support for siblings, as we know how much impacted it has on the family life, having a brother or sister with a serve disability.
