Subject: Important Safety Information Regarding Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Dear community members
As Tropical Cyclone Alfred approaches the southern Queensland coast, it is vital to ensure you are well-prepared and that your home remains as safe as possible. Heavy rainfall and gale-force winds are anticipated, so please follow these precautions to protect yourself and your property.
Preparation Steps:
✔ Secure Outdoor Items: Bring inside or secure outdoor items such as furniture, trampolines, toys, and bins that could become hazardous in strong winds.
✔ Close and Lock Windows and Doors. Ensure all windows and doors are locked. If necessary, use towels, blankets, or sandbags to prevent water from seeping in, particularly through minor cracks.
✔ Collect Sandbags.Pick up sandbags from your local council’s designated stations, which will be open from this afternoon. This is especially important if your property has experienced runoff or excessive water during the 2022 floods. If you're uncertain, it’s better to take some anyway.
✔ Store Valuables Safely :Place valuable items in a secure, elevated location to protect them from potential water damage.
✔ Maintain Your Yard. Keep lawns and gardens tidy and ensure drains are clear to help prevent water pooling. Pay special attention to external drains, especially strip drains and those around rocky areas.
✔ Prepare for Power Outages: Have torches, batteries, and a fully charged phone ready in case of power outages.
✔ Stock Up on Essentials: Ensure you have enough water, food, and medications on hand.
