Join us for a practical and interactive workshop looking at the impacts of climate change in a rural setting through the lens of best-practice ecological restoration.
We will visit a local property and take a look at evidence of climate impacts such as the 2019 drought + fire disaster, followed by flash flooding and sheet erosion across the local landscape.🔥💦

You will learn how to support biodiversity and enhance agricultural production alongside like-minded landholders from the local area.

As per the recent NSW Government warnings, we are not asking people to touch or attempt to personally rescue alive Flying-Foxes as a very small percentage, 1% , can carry Lyssavirus.
If safe to do so, you can cover, without touching, an injured or sick bat with a towel or other clean cloth to prevent fly-strike.
Likewise placing chopped fruit in accessible places should not involve touching them - they will climb or fly to it once you are out of the way (they are scared of us giants and won't willingly come close).
Obviously keep children and pets away as well.

Our FAWNA battoe volunteers are all vaccinated - so please continue to call us for sick or injured bats. Together we are working to save this essential species and we profoundly thank you.

🌿 Have you spotted Old Man’s Beard in bloom?

Clematis aristata is a beautiful native climber found across eastern Australia, including here on the Mid Coast. Right now, its masses of starry white flowers are putting on a spectacular show—and offering a welcome floral display. 🐝✨

Keep an eye out along moist, sheltered forest edges and among the trees. Have you seen it flowering near you? Share your sightings or photos below! 📸



A few fascinating facts:
• Despite the floral display, the “petals” are actually four petal-like sepals arranged in a star shape.
• The plant climbs by curling its leaf stalks around nearby branches for support.
• After flowering, female plants form distinctive fluffy seed heads—the feature behind the name “Old Man’s Beard.”
• In NSW, it usually flowers from September to December and is widespread along the coast and ranges, particularly in moist or sheltered forest.

Join us for a practical field day that takes the mystery out of making compost and vermicompost extracts. Learn how to capture beneficial microbes, humic compounds, enzymes, signalling molecules and trace minerals in a versatile liquid that supports healthier plants and soil. 💧🌿

You’ll learn how to create simple, functional brewing equipment from readily available parts and produce your own on-farm liquid biostimulant. We’ll cover:

• 🔧 How to build a simple brewer
• 🧪 Water ratios, brewing times and choosing the right inputs

💧 Help local wildlife beat the summer heat! 🐨🌿

With a hot, dry summer on the horizon, MidCoast Council is once again teaming up with WIRES to provide Water for Wildlife tree-trough drinkers to eligible private landholders.

These simple drinkers provide a vital water source for native animals when they need it most. 🦘🐦

Want to see how it works? Search for the WIRES Water for Wildlife Program to learn more about the program and setup.
Once enough registrations are received, the drinkers will be delivered to a Council depot for collection.

On 1 October, Diane Norris from Bee Wild inspired us all with her incredible passion and knowledge of Australian native bees. One of the day’s highlights was watching Diane generously split a hive of native stingless bees, giving everyone a fascinating glimpse into their intricate and beautiful world. 🌿🍯

A big thank you to Diane and everyone who joined us to learn, connect and celebrate these remarkable little pollinators! 💛🌼
