It is with incredibly sad hearts that we share the devastating news that our beloved Wanaruah Local Aboriginal Land Council building was broken into and maliciously damaged on Friday night.
During this senseless act, one of our vehicles was stolen and later found burnt out, while another was also significantly damaged. The destruction caused within our workplace has left our staff absolutely heartbroken.
What makes this even harder is knowing that so many of the items damaged or destroyed were personally purchased by our staff to support the work we do for our community. These were not just office items — they were things bought with care, dedication and commitment to help us better serve our people and continue the important work we do each day.
To walk into a place, we love so deeply and find it torn apart through the malicious actions of others is devastating beyond words. This building is more than just a workplace; it is a space where our staff work tirelessly for community, where ideas are built, support is given, and important work happens every single day.
Our team is deeply upset by what has occurred, and while we process the devastation and begin the difficult task of cleaning and restoring our beloved workplace, our office will remain closed.
We respectfully ask that community members please do not attend the building until Wednesday to allow us the time and space needed to clean, restore and secure the premises.
As this is now a police matter, we will not be answering any questions or providing any further comment at this time, and we ask that our privacy and the process be respected.
Thank you for your patience, understanding and ongoing support as we work together to put our workplace back together. We will come back stronger.
