Dungog by Design "in The Frame", presents a collection of works by artist Georgina Clark.

Georgina moved from Sydney to Dungog 37 years ago to live a more sustainable life, in a community of a more human scale than the fast-paced city. A largely self-taught artist, she currently focuses on creating topical but ephemeral work using collage techniques on paper.

Working with freely-available, main-stream media images her work examines many issues; environmental concerns are her main focus, especially habitat loss, climate change and the blight of our post-pandemic world: over–tourism.

The work titled “Mine Site Rehabilitation Muswellbrook” examines the devastation left by coal mining, which inspired the creation of a word – SOLASTALGIA – to describe the distress experienced by local residents, who see their once-loved natural environment destroyed. But many works are just for fun, such as the work titled “21st Century Object of Veneration”, which is self-evident.

Georgina hopes that the work will encourage people to think about the issues, and our impacts on the world, and times, in which we live.

Fireworks, ice skating and glowing lanterns will light up Singleton when Firelight returns to the Civic Centre precinct on Saturday 2 May from 6pm to 9.30pm.

The much-loved community event will once again transform the heart of Singleton into a vibrant, after-dark celebration of art, culture and connection, with a packed program of free activities and entertainment for all ages.

Mayor of Singleton, Cr Sue Moore said Firelight continued to grow as one of the region’s most anticipated events, offering something for everyone.

“Firelight is all about bringing our community together, and this year’s program really captures that sense of connection, creativity and fun,” she said.

Families can explore the precinct through a scavenger hunt, enjoy roving performers and live entertainment, or take part in a range of free children’s activities including face painting, craft, a jumping castle and inflatable maze.

Market stalls featuring local makers and community groups will line the precinct, alongside a diverse range of food vendors serving up delicious street eats. Adults can also relax in the outdoor licensed bar area, showcasing Hunter Valley wine and beer.

Cr Moore said inclusivity remained a key focus of the event, with a dedicated sensory space providing a calm and welcoming environment for neurodiverse community members.

“As the night unfolds, we encourage everyone to come together with family and friends to enjoy the spectacular fireworks display, proudly supported by Yancoal,” she said.

“Firelight is a free, family-friendly event and a wonderful opportunity to experience the energy of our community right here in the heart of Singleton.”

The Civic Precinct and Library car park will be closed during the event, with alternative parking available at the Council carpark and adjoining green.
