On Tuesday 11 August MAKE SURE YOUR ARTS JOBS ARE COUNTED in the Census.
Recent updates to Australia’s occupation classifications mean more creative jobs are now better reflected in Census data. Now it’s time to make those improvements count (for all the reasons: funding, recognition, infrastructure, planning...)
Top bits of advice from Creative Australia https://creative.gov.au/news-events/news/2026-census-occupation-guidance-creative-sector:
• Be as specific as possible (eg, exhibition curator, book editor, musician, live performance tour manager, art gallery owner). And avoid using only broad terms such as ‘manager’, ‘artist’, ‘designer’ or ‘creative’.
• Use specific arts/creative keywords when describing your main work duties, the industry or business you work in and the main goods or services provided by the business you work for.
• If you’re self-employed, freelance or contracting, do not enter terms such as “self-employed”, “contractor” or “business owner”. Enter the description of your actual occupation.

Music NSW launches online session New Wave: Building Buzz with artist Pete McCredie on using social media to promote your music & find your people.

Online. 27 August 2026, 6pm.

Being based regionally doesn't mean being invisible online – it just means being intentional about how you connect, show up and break through.

Join recording and touring artist Pete McCredie for an online workshop on using social media and digital tools to market your music, grow your audience and promote your shows and releases. Drawing from his own experiences, Pete will walk through strategies that actually work, give insights into building an online presence, creating content that connects, and turning it all into streams, real-world audiences and ticket sales.

Bring your questions and ideas for the opportunity to unpack regional-specific ways to market your music and stand out in a crowded digital landscape.
